Saints LT Bushrod quietly making a name for himself

METAIRIE, La. – Though Jermon Bushrod is making a name for himself as one of the better left tackles in the NFL, you’d likely never know it.

The Saints’ fifth-year man who protects quarterback Drew Brees' blindside isn’t flashy. He’s fairly soft-spoken. And he’s not a self-promoter.

That few people have written about him the past two seasons and that few stations have run stories about him is a good thing, Saints coach Sean Payton said.

“Generally when at left tackle, there’s no new, it’s good news,” he said. “When the cameras are on you, oftentimes it’s because there’s a pressure, a hurry, a sack.”

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

I haven't really been paying attention to him this year. I've been focusing on our center and RT. I don't know if Payton is still giving him help with chips or not. I've got to say he's growing on me.

You mean you didn't see him whiff on 4 out of 5 blocks on the screen to his side of the field? This guy is ridiculously bad. I can't even believe they wrote this article on him. He's a veritable turnstile.

I don't know about the screens but h isn't nearly as bad as you make him out to be.

That's the idea behind a screen. Let your guy come through the line and over pursue and dump the ball off over his head and let the RB do his thing while you take on the second level. But this is also a timing play because if you get to far ahead of the play you get flagged for illegal man downfield. He just needs to work a little bit better on his release timing. I think he is playing much better than what Jamhead Brown was playing, less penalties for sure.

He's a good player.

I have to admit, I was one of the ones who said let him go in free agency, but he has definitely upped his game. He reminds me a lot of Stinchcomb in his prime, not always pretty or textbook, but he gets the job done no matter who lines up across from him.
