We have a serious problem that GW needs to address
As usual Paytons offense is hitting top 5, currently top #1 now, but things change.
2011 Offence http://www.pro-football-reference.co...s/nor/2011.htm Offensive ranking http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2011/ Payton has been consistent sense 2006, and thats an amazing feat. He has Fielded what could be argued as the best offense for the last 6 years. In 2009 -2010 our defense was rated ok. But we had take aways in 2009 to make it look good. In 2010 there was a huge improvement, and I was a complete GW homer. He was doing his job. We were getting better. This year so far BOTH sides of the ball have completely failed. We are worse than in 2009 and not many turn overs to make the defense look good. So the offense has to carry the team, like it did in 2006- 2008. 2011 Team Defense 25 Defensive Passing 22 Defensive Rushing 24 http://www.pro-football-reference.co...s/2011/opp.htm 2010 Team Defense 7 Defensive Passing 4 Defensive Rushing 16 2010 NFL Opposition & Defensive Statistics - Pro-Football-Reference.com 2009 Team Defense 20 Defensive Passing 26 Defensive Rushing 21 2009 NFL Opposition & Defensive Statistics - Pro-Football-Reference.com He made moves to fix our DL in the offseason. Seems they haven't worked. Now we are changing up the secondary, that worked for us in 2010, leaving us vulnerable on 2 fronts. What GW doing? and can he fix this before we get into the playoffs ? Of course the funny thing is our defense is still better than the failclowns, currently ranked #26 |
I thought you were going to say some of the fanbase..lol
|
Yea... our defense isn't forcing as many turnovers as in 2009. I noticed that.

I believe those stats you are citing were taken before the Colts game. Here is a link to more updated stats:
NFL Stats: by Team Category We have the 14th ranked defense in the league currently, not terrible, not great. Also here is a link to our passing and rushing defense: New Orleans Saints Team Page at NFL.com |
THe offense and Defense has to play hand in hand.
Ingram in the mix is design to help slow the game down, running the ball more. On the other side the defense has to be able to stop other teams from running on us... fail. So our offense has to open it up and score a lot to keep up with other teams. Yes the decline in our D not being able to get the INT's like they once did but if that isn't happening you got to do other things and we can't. The play of our DE and OLB is killing us on D right now. I AM NOT "OK" with being ok on defense. Being ok is for losers. So if the team finished 8-8 you'd be ok with that... I think not. |
I figure we have 1-3 more years, we have 1 to 3 more years to win another Super Bowl with Bree's at the helm. Then its back to the drawing board.
|
One word. Tackling.
|
Some of the tackling issues could be resolved if they stop trying to strip the ball and actually wrap up the ballcarrier sometimes KISS works best

There are also other way better stat sites you can use to see how we compare to a team that we are about to play. Advanced NFL Stats As you can see they really break down team efficiency . http://www.advancednflstats.com/2011...es-week-8.html Cold, Hard Football Facts.com: Quality Stats NFL site is ok for up to date #'s, sometime, really nothing else. |
Yeah, Im also mainly worried about are pass defense decline from 2010.
Our rush defense was never that great, but Greer actually was 2nd only to Revis in 2009, and in 2010, even without turnovers we improved to be #4 in the NFL. But because of the changed positions of porter and robinson, and OLB, we have taken a nose dive in the secondary. ..and consider that we have faced 2 rookie QB's Colts/Jags and are still ranked #22 against the pass. The experiment seems like its not working for GW. Im not sure if the new guys are not getting GW's scheme or if they just can't play the position as well as the 2010 secondary, but we can't go into the playoffs not being able to stop BOTH side of the ball. Id be happy if we just fixed the secondary, because if we play Rogers again, all indication is that he will torch robinson and our secondary again. and if we win that game...what if we get the Patriots and Brady in the SB? BB is not one to make a mistake 2x, and the Pats want blood for the beat down we put on them, and a 4th ring. Right now our secondary would be raped by a good QB like Brady. Our offense would have to trade scores with them. Rush/Pass has to improve drastically in the second 1/2 of the season. yeah, Fire/Ragin our tackling is not good. We try to strip the ball more than tackle. |
Actually our pass defense I think secondary is a lot better. We have CB's who can play. A couple who are coming along nicely.
We just can't get a dominate / consistant pass rush. EVERYTHING starts with the pass rush. If the QB knows he's got to get rid of the ball he'll rush the throw and our DB's can jump the routes. No pass rush means no jumping routes and we'll give up yards in passing and little to no INT's. Simple. Our DE's and OLB are crap. They are getting blocked consistantly and not fighting through the blocks. Then they are having to chase down runners they make poor tackling techniques. |

But thats why we drafted Jordan, Wilson, and Romeus and signed McBride, Franklin, Johnson and Rogers and are developing promising young players like Galette and Casillas. It hasn't worked out like we'd hoped yet but at least they know where our problems are and are doing something about it. I remember a previous regime that ignored gaping holes year after year. Good LB's can be had in the middle rounds, so look for us to address it again in next years draft. |
Lol, yeah our defense is fine the rams are just that good. This game is hilarious.
|
Can't stop the run can't stop the run can't stop the run!
|
Cant score points, cant score points.
|
21pts should be enouph to beat the rams. Simple, offense has a bad day , we can't win. Our defense can't even stop the Rams
|
That was awful! Hopefully get back to wining again next week in the Dome!
GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!!!!! |
You can only ask you D to do so much.
1 TD was a pick 6 Brees had an INT in the 2nd quarter that gave the rams short field. Rams had a blocked punt, that set the rams up on a short field. The saints had less the 100 yards on offense at half time, that is absolutely terrible. The D played well enough to win, the O did not. |
The problem is Greg Williams.....any idiot with a microphone attached to his head can call a Blitz!
|
Yeah and those Blitzes were working ..only against us to.
|
Ive never understood that kind of logic. If your playing GB, sure, a short field will kill you, but the Rams?
Shouldn't matter if they are on their 20 or our 20 yard line. An offense like the Rams ranked #32 in the NFL should be 3 and out. But our defense ranked at the bottom of the NFL can't stop them in the red zone. We better get this fixed within the next 4 games. At least be dominate against the pass or run. bradford had 328 yrd passing on GB, 24-3. |
