The Saints already feature a solid tight end in Ernie Conwell, but that didn’t stop them from inking TE Boo Williams to a three-year deal. Sources say Williams won’t be challenging Conwell for a starting spot in training camp next season, but the Saints likely will use more two-TE sets to keep both Williams and Conwell involved in the offense. QB Aaron Brooks looked to his tight ends more this year than ever before, and we’re told that’s one of the reasons his numbers were so solid. Head coach Jim Haslett believes the position could be the most complete on the team, and he hopes to keep both Williams and Conwell heavily involved in the offense to take some pressure off RB Deuce McAllister and draw some attention away from the Saints’ wide receivers.
I wonder if this is further evidence that Horn is about to become the next off-season "cancer". Lower numbers this year, speaking out against the coaching staff and <gasp> Brooks.

I wasn\'t really in favor of them signing Joe to a new contract last year - basically I thought he was too old to get a new contract when he had two years remaining on the old one - but I don\'t think he\'s going to be cut for his comments now. He is a great WR, but he needs to control his antics.

However, I don\'t see anywhere in that quote where you could infer that Haslet was implying that Joe might get cut. The only thing he said about WR\'s was getting some pressure off of them. You\'re not in favor of that?

If Stallworth had shown something in \'03, you\'d have some good reason to think Horn might be cut or traded, but right now I just see this as rempant speculation.

Yeah, we\'ll see about that. If what we saw late in the season from Boo is any sign of things to come, Boo will be challenging a lot more than Ernie Conwell. He\'ll be challenging the NFC\'s best TEs for a spot in the Pro Bowl.

Money says Boo, not withstanding an injury, has more receptions for more yards next year than Conwell. Anybody want a piece of that action?

Not me.

Do you think the Saints will make a move this offseason to add another WR? I still think Horn, Stallworth, Pathon, and Lewis/Lewis/Gardner can be one of the best groups in the league, but they\'ve also proven that they can be very average. Any chance we take a shot at someone? I want a Charles Lee type guy. A huge body that can go sit down in the middle. I know out TEs can do that, but I want a WR who can too.

Maybe they go WR late in the draft Whodat. D. Lewis is on his way to NFLE, and Gardner looks like he might have something if he can get his head on straight. I wouldn\'t be surprised to see the Saints go all \"D\" in the draft.

I dunno Saintfan. As much as I would love to see this team go all D in the draft.. or free agency for that matter, I thought if there was ever a time for that it would have been last year. Haslett and Co. seem to be stressing this balance idea - \"let\'s not forget the offense.\" if you will.

There also seems to be a lot of talk about how bad the receivers were this year coming out of the Saints\' camp. I think it was disappointing, but there is still talent there. I wouldn\'t be surprised either way, but it seems to me that when Haslett labels something as a problem it gets fixed either by cutting it off (uh-oh Joe Horn) or by adding players just to make a point. Wonder why that lack of discipline problem never got fixed.

We\'ll see. Either way, I HATE February. Too much time to sit and wait for free agency. Tick tock, tick tock.
