Defense Beware!!!!!
In the modern day of free agency, a lot of things can change, but lets take a look at what we will be facing next season.
Atlanta (Vick And Company) Twice. Carolina (Jake, Davis and Friends) Twice. Tampa Bay (Gruden Will Strike Again) Twice. San Francisco (T.O.). Seattle (Alexander). Denver (Portis). Kansas City (Preist, Tony and crew.), Minnesota (Moss, Culpepper, Bennet and Amigos). Arizona (Dennis Green at head coach: therefore players will follow). St. Louis (Marshall, Holt and the Gang), Oakland (Fitzgerald). San Diego (Ladanian and Eli). Dallas (Don't worry, Parcells will fix their problem at running Back. Can you say Corey Dillon?) If we dont sure up this defense, especially the run defense. We could easily go 4 and 12. And If Brooks comes in with the same type of atttitude/performances, we could easily go 1-15. Easily. !!!! Things could get real ugly next season. We better make power moves in free agency and the draft and the 36 milliondollarman better bring his $hi+++ to the table. |

I agree that Wilson is someone that you can’t pass on. However I really doubt that he will be let go that easily. He will be franchised along with Champ Bailey and Chris McAlister. All three of these players, if not franchised, should be sought after hard core. I think everyone realizes that CB and LB are our two main focuses. Both of which I feel we should try to pick up in FA. Then supplement in the draft. I would foresee only being able to pick up one great FA and another to fill the gap (but still better than average). I would be interested to see what happens in Denver as I would take either Wilson or Gold. Wilson is a no brainer, but Gold has great speed and amazing potential. If we were to take Gold, then he isn’t even close to the salary of Wilson. That leaves us open to get a top grade CB (ie. Woodson, Springs). If we were to pick up Wilson, then we can go for someone at CB like Winfield (don’t know what his salary is like, but I think it is not close to the upper tier level).
Question: I haven’t seen a lot of Cie. Is he better suited to middle or outside? This would factor in on who we would be looking to pick up. If we think that Cie can be a stud in the middle, then lets look for someone outside, and vice versa. |

Saintsfan200, I don\'t remember any of your other posts, but this post actually has some intelligence behind it, unlike many others I see around here. You are correct, while there might be many CB\'s selected on the first day of the draft, none are ready to make an immediate impact, ala Terrance Newman. Most of these CB\'s are project players, most are undersized, with the exception of Narond Alexander, Chris Gamble, Dunta Robinson, and Keith Smith, but even then, alexander, Robinson, and Smith could stand to gain some weight, which isn\'t that hard. I personally like Gamble, just like you. But, I would like to see us draft two corners, possibly Colclough with one of our 2nd rounders and Alexander with our 3rd or 5th, unless Gamble was there for us in the 1st.
But if we have a chance to get Wilson, I do not believe we can pass this up. With our current CB situation, Fred Thomas is almost a lock for one of the spots, the other to be won by Ambrose (who we all know is old), Brown (he showed me something in that game against Dallas), or someone we draft/sign. This draft, unlike last years, is making my head dizzy. would have been so much easier if we would have picked Trufant in the first like I said we should have.... |
The waiting drove me mad....
I don't want to hear from those that know... Everything has changed, absolutely nothing's changed Eddie is a....draftnik? |

I\'d rather see us pickup a free agent corner (maybe Woodson or Byrant). Then take a LB in the first round (either Jon Vilma or DJ Williams). None of the corners in the draft look like future all-stars, except for potientially Chris Gamble, but he would take at least a year to develop. Williams and Vilma on the other hand look to be potential superstars. |

Poof, franchised.
I\'m currently looking over their list of unrestricted free agents, and Wilson and Gold\'s names are the only two that stand out, and Wilson is worth alot more than Gold. I\'d be happy as hell, but am skeptical. Who knows, they did try to make a play for Milloy. |

This is a no-brainer, break the bank on this guy.
Wilson could be one of 2-3 big FA pick-ups this offseason and would allow us to take a sensible draft strategy instead of forcing every new pick to be a starter and picking strictly based on need. Wilson and Sapp or Wilson and Bryant would give us a LOT of freedom on draft day. [Edited on 6/2/2004 by BrooksMustGo] |

:hallucine: Contract talks break off with Pro Bowler Wilson HONOLULU - A contract agreement between the Broncos and Al Wilson was so close the middle linebacker\'s agent flew to Denver recently to finalize the deal. Then talks broke down. Now they are down and out. And with no talks scheduled, Wilson said he does not intend to sign with the Broncos before free agency kicks off March 3. \"I don\'t think it\'s going to get done; I\'ll be honest with you,\" Wilson said after Wednesday\'s Pro Bowl practice. \"I don\'t. I\'ve just gotten that feeling. I\'ve been to the Pro Bowl the last three years, and we haven\'t gotten done anything yet. \"We just haven\'t been able to come to an agreement - bottom line. We\'re here, they\'re there, and we just can\'t find that midway point to meet. It isn\'t any big deal to me, man. I\'m going to play ball somewhere. I know that I\'m going to be successful playing for somebody. If it is in Denver next year, cool. If it\'s not, I\'m going to make it happen somewhere else.\" http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,...936607,00.html |

These are the newest salary cap figures I could find:
http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/clayt...n/1510617.html I just dont see how the Falcons can be a huge player in the free agency market. I believe Sapp will end up in Baltimore and Owens will end up with the Eagles or the Skins. |

Cap room is really not the question , the question will be the body count .... :P Atlanta could trade 1/2 of the defense on draft day and I would not bat an eye . |
