Handwerger: Saints aren't who we thought they were
METAIRIE, La. – You could see it from your couch Sunday afternoon.
The downtrodden looks. The forlorn body language. New Orleans has a problem and it’s much bigger than the head coach being in the coaching box and the offensive game plan being head-scratchingly awkward and a porous offensive line that made it open season on the quarterback. The Saints, at 5-3, aren’t who we thought they were. Not right now. They’re not the Super Bowl contender we thought they’d be. Nor are they one of the league’s top teams. They’re like everyone else right now not named Green Bay – they’re fighting to stay at the mean and not drop below it. That includes matching effort, especially against a winless team. “If you want to be great in this league, you have to match their effort,” left guard Carl Nicks said Monday morning. “They came out intense (and) fired up and we weren’t on their level. If you want to be on an elite team, if you want to go back to the Super Bowl like we did before, we’re going to have to do things like that and really step it up.” Full article. Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.
All little common sense goes a long way. Last edited by papz; 12-24-2011 at 06:45 PM.. |
