Here is a link to The Times-Picayune from Nov. 2, 1966 when the National Football League awarded a pro franchise to the state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans. (Note that it wasn't awarded to any owner, but to the city and state).

Yes. An easy date for us, New Orleanians, to remember.
All Saints Day has a double menaing that only we can understand and also understand why the team was called Saints.  I went to 7:00 PM Mass tonight. Hope ya'll , my little fellow Catholic monsters, went to Mass too.
