this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Tampa was in our shoes before facing us this season. How ironic....

I'm tired of talking about it too. I'm tired of seeing this team play down to their opponent, I'm tired of seeing this team believe their press clippings, I'm tired of seeing this team take losses like this every year and taking them lightly. We are at the halfway point of the season and we are only two games above 500. Playoff teams don't lose games like the ones we've lost over the last several years to teams with winless records. You can blow jelly beans and pop-sickles out your arse all you want trying to find a silver lining but the fact of the matter is that this team has a problem. They have a problem with a stubborn HC who refuses to run the ball and gives up on the run game if he only gets 2-3 yards the first time he tries to run the ball. EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD KNOWS THIS NOW SEAN. Just in case you didn't know. We have run the screen game to death. EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD KNOWS THIS TOO SEAN. The major part of our passing attack, is the short pass either in the middle or out in the flats and guess what? EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD KNOWS THIS TOO SEAN.That's how teams beat us, stop our run game once and we give up on it, then concentrate on our short passing game and bring pressure up the middle. Works EVERY TIME SEAN. Not just once in a while, EVERY TIME.
Oh and if you want to score on us, just throw the ball to whoever Harper is covering. Know why? Cause Harper can't cover a blade of grass much less a TE, WR, or RB and one other thing, RUN THE BALL, that's it, just run the ball on us. You know why? Cause we NEVER set the edge at the end of the line, and we NEVER play contain at the end of the line, oh and don't even sweat the Saints pass rush, you know why? CAUSE WE DON'T HAVE ONE!!! This stuff works EVERY TIME. |

It's always easier to remember the screw ups than to remember when he plays solid. His coverage has seemed better so far this year. Now if he could just stop whiffing on tackles, we'd be all good.

THAT has actually surprised me more than anything else. He's always been average against the pass (as are most SS's in the NFL), but he's always been a pretty sure tackler, even though he often goes for the hit instead of wrapping up. This year he's regressed slightly in run support.
