Al Wilson

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Did anyone have a chance to watch the probowl last night? Al Wilson looked terrific, he has great speed and was around the ball constantly. If we dont make a good effort to sign him it will be a crime....

Al had 5 sacks in 2000 and only one this year. I saw him, he did look good. Was he starting or was he playing place of someone. Hopefully he wasn\'t starting and we could get him a the right price.

One thing we have to remember though is that your MLB will suffer unless you have a DT who can consistently draw a double team. If both DT\'s can be manblocked, that leaves a guard or the center able to take on the MLB, which really hurts a defences ability to stop the other team from running between the tackles.

Just look at the Bears the past few years. When they had Teddy Washington in the middle, drawing double teams, Brian Urlacher seemed to be all over the field. Last year, without Washington, his performance dropped off significantly.

Last year, the Saints felt Grady Jackson could be that kind of force at DT, drawing double teams so the LBs could make plays. Obviously Grady was a huge (catch the pun?) bust. Regardless of who plays MLB for the Saints next season, the development of Jonathon Sullivan into (hopefully) a DT that will demand double teams will be the biggest factor into the Saints ability to stop the run.
