Laser guided first downs?
A new company has come up with a way to use lasers mounted at the top of a stadium to project a visible first down line on the field. It would be seen by officials, players, and fans. The line would be accurate to within one-eighth of an inch and could replace first-down chains and measurements.

Southern Cal has approved its use, pending approval by the NCAA. The NFL has yet to approve it, although a presentation was made on the subject to the Competition Committee last March
