I really respect Joe Gibbs, but I'm at a loss to figure out why in the blue hades he would want to bench Ramsey? The kid has really shown a lot of grit, good ability, good decision making ability all in a system that wasn't working in his favor. I think Ramsey could really make some noise working with Gibbs.
It also makes me wonder what sort of deal Miami would make us for Brooks?

I don\'t have any idea why they would want to get rid of Ramsey either. That\'s nuts. I\'d trade Brooks for him. hehehe...

Whodat, you\'d trade Brooks for my grandpa! :P As for Ramsey...his days are likely numbered in Washington. The trip Gibbs made to FLA to visit with Brunell miffed him from what I hear...furthermore, I don\'t blame him...Ramsey I mean.

That kid is going to be very good Saintfan. Fans in DC are really going to get kicking themselves next year after letting Ramsey and Davis go. What\'s their starting backfield going to look like? Brunell and Trung Candidate? Now that\'s funny.

PS - what\'s your grandfather\'s completion percentage? Maybe we can work a deal.

I agree that Ramsey has a future, but did I hear you right? Are you saying you think they should stick with the guy and let him develope? :P

GP\'s percentage is only about 54%, but he\'s still got a cannon and hits the old lady next door in her hoveround in stride every time! Honestly, she drops a lot of \'em. He throws off his back foot some (never could coach him out of that) but he\'ll come relatively cheap...and he\'s only lookin for a two year deal.

Well, let\'s see, sounds like GP is a decent athlete but not real consistent. Hang on, let me consult my Jim Haslett school of Football Operations handbook.... uh huh... OK... sure... hhmmm... how does 6 years $40 million sound? Oh, and don\'t worry, we\'ll get rid of any backup with talent just to make sure GP stays on the field even if he ends up in a wheelchair. Deal? ;)

Funny tho that you avoided that quote. I thought you came from the \"buy \'em trained up and on the cheap\" department. I suppose it\'s all relative to the situation. ;)

:P

I never said \"trained up\", but I did say cheap and consistent. Ramsey\'s numbers are already good especially considering how often that poor kid got hit. Put him behind our line and even you would be saying Aaron who?

But Ramsey isn\'t cheap anyway so this is a non-issue. Brunell, on the other hand, looks to be costly and old. That\'s a real bad combo.

True about Brunell but your givin up 40 for Grandpa and he\'s 77! LOL

Brunell is not even an upgrade over Brooks. If he really was a top tier QB there is no way he sits on the bench all last season. Maybe it\'s been so long since we\'ve all seen him play that we can\'t remember, but the guy is \"pretty good\" at best.

BrooksMustGo 02-13-2004 11:29 AM

Brunnell has never had a 16 game RB or more than one receiver.

I can\'t imagine what Brunnell could do with Deuce, Horn, Pathon, Conwell and Williams.

Brooks would be in NFLE if he had the same supporting cast Brunnell had the last several years.

Cadillac 02-13-2004 12:40 PM

QB news around the league

I can imagine exactly what Brunell would do. Take up cap space and lead the team to an 8-8 season.

In 2000, When Brunell was a starter in this league, he had Fred Taylor. Fred Taylor ran for 1400 yards. He had Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell. Both had 1200 yard seasons. He had a better recieving crew to work with in 2000 than the Saints did last year. Jimmy Smith went to the pro bowl that year and Keenan went this year.

So don\'t even try to say that Brunell has never had anything to work with. The Saints would not be a better team without Brooks.

Brunell is not as bad as some of you are making him out to be. I\'d put him right there with Brooks, if he was in his prime. However, he is 33-34 years old, and his years are numbered. Brunell has led his team to two AFC Championships and given the Jaguars the highest winning percentage of any team in the NFL, even though they\'ve only been in existence for 11 years.
Oh, and Cadillac, you haven\'t been around here long enough to get away with calling people ignorant.

I don\'t think that Brunell is as bad either, however he is about on par with Brooks, and he is older. The money we would save wouldn\'t be all that significant. I\'m just not seeing the big deal with trading to get a new QB. As myself and many other posters have said, we have larger concerns.

Not trying to pick a fight here B&B, but calling someone ignorant means that they are unaware or uninformed http://www.merriam-webster.com/cgi-b...ry&va=ignorant
cadillac was able to support his comment by providing examples of players who Brunell played with. Thus showing that BMG was incorrect in his assumption. However I do agree, that name calling of any kind is bad form.

I don\'t mind name-calling in a forum, as long as the two participants are both joking and just having some fun. I\'m aware of the definitions of \'ignorant\', there are many- you should visit the following link.
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=ignorant
But if you are new, especially if you\'ve only been posting for two friggin days, you should try to deter from any derogatory comments until you\'ve gotten a feel for other people that have been posting here for a while.
When you start posting to a board, guns-a-blazing, you might make a valid point, but nobody will see it. ;)

I meant that I felt that the comment made by BrooksMustGo was ignorant, but as I read it now it definitely does sound like it is directed at BrooksMustGo the person and not the comment he made. I apologize, I did not mean to offend or insult anyone.

I want to know how the Brooks-lovers (a la BillyC if he ever resurfaces, Saintfan, Danno, etc.) feel about Brunell drawing comparisons as an equal to Brooks. Think that\'s fair guys?

saintfan 02-13-2004 04:24 PM

QB news around the league

I haven\'t compared their numbers, but numbers aside I think Brooks is the better QB. That\'s my opinion. I just wonder what a comparison like that has to do with the price of tea in China? Those of you that want Brooks gone aren\'t gonna be convinced of his worth regardless, so why bother with yet another debate? What\'s the point? If you wanna debate somebody on something then tell Saintz08 that Delhomme isn\'t perfect. Brooks is the Saints QB...it\'s time for some of you to come to terms with that. ;)

Well I\'m not a \"Brooks lover\" but I do think that he\'s better than at least half of the qb\'s out there. Brunell being one of them.
I think that Brunell in his prime was a better quarterback than Brooks is now however.

Regardless of all of that, Captain Fumbalot is our qb. I think that he\'s physically gifted and....
Dammit whodat, you almost got me going on the Brooks debate.

Keep Brooks, fix the defense, and stop all the fumbles and penalties.

I\'m not starting a debate - I just saw a number of posts that said that Brunell was at Brooks\' level and very few objections. I don\'t think Brooks is all that great, but I do think Brunell is worse.

Just kidding about the debate. I\'m not good at throwing in the ;) \'s or the :D \'s or the :P \'s. Not really my style.

Do you think that Brunell was good in his younger days? Pretty similar to Brooks, I think. Brunell scrambled more. Which raises a question:

Does anyone think that Brooks should scramble more? I\'m not sure myself. He was able to run away from trouble in his first year here. But rather than sit on the fence with this I\'ll say that I think that he should run more. Make defenses worry more about his feet and maybe stay a little more honest.
It\'s the \"run Forrest run\" idea. If you get into trouble, don\'t think too hard. It may get you sacked, cause a fumble, or even force an interception. I don\'t want to see Brooks on the sideline with one of these-- :D
