Former Saint Ninkovich

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Former Saint Rob Ninkovich, now an OLB with the Pats has had a ProBowler type game tonight... In reflecting on the decision to let Fujita walk, do you think the Saints Braintrust has a weakness in evaluating/scouting defensive talent?...

No I don't think that at all.

We got some pretty good Defensive backs of late.

The only area we are struggling at is DE and OLB.

NO. I think the money is being spent on offense. We have as much talent on D as we decided to spend money on. When you have a Brees to pay, a Bush, and a high paid guard to name a few that only leaves so much to spend on defense. (yes I am aware we do not still have Bush, but we were paying him until this year).

Ninkovich had some serious knee issues and Fujita wasn't worth half of what he got.

So if Fujita isn't worth what he was paid, would you extend that same criticism to Will Smith?

I'll let you decide, I already know the answer...

Saints defensive end Will Smith has agreed to a new six-year contract extension that could be worth up to $70 million, a league source said Wednesday afternoon.

The deal includes $26 million in guaranteed money.

The deal will make Smith the third highest-paid defensive end in the NFL, behind Minnesota's Jared Allen and Indianapolis' Dwight Freeney.
