Sporting News team report http://www.foxsports.com/content/view?contentId=2146858 If the team can't reach a long-term deal with RE Darren Howard, it's expected to designate him its franchise player. The Saints can't afford to let a player with Howard's talent, experience and potential get to the open market. With the franchise tag, Howard would make $6.8 million next season. The coaches were extremely disappointed in the downfield blocking by the wide receivers last season and plan to hammer that point home this offseason. They believe RB Deuce McAllister could have rushed for 2,000 yards if the receivers would have held their blocks better on certain runs. If the receivers don't block better next season, they will be replaced by players who will get the job done. SOMETHING TO PROVE DT Johnathan Sullivan and LE Charles Grant, both former first-round picks, need to prove they are worthy of their multimillion-dollar contracts. Grant has shown flashes of ability but is inconsistent with his effort and production. He has a great burst off the edge but is only average in run support. Sullivan is a tremendous athlete, but he was hampered last year by a contract holdout that caused him to report to camp late and out of shape. He needs to improve his strength and conditioning to become a force inside. Both also need to mature off the field. Sullivan was among the most heavily fined players on the team last year for being late to meetings and medical treatment appointments. |

Fox/TSN team report...Interesting
Howard WILL be a Saint next year. No way they have a repeat of the Johnson/Glover mishap again. NO WAY!
I assume he means Horn and Pathon as the WR\'s in jeopardy. Hammy wasn\'t in the line-up long enough to evaluate his downfiled blocking. I\'m getting a better grasp on why the WR coach was fired. Someone else here mentioned downfield blocking was the real reason while the rest of us were screaming it was because of drops. Kudo\'s to whoever that was. Unfortuneately I didn\'t make a game this year and its impossible to see on TV. Joe and Pathon are both gone before the 2005 season. Sullivan and Grant too inconsistant? Undisciplined? Well boys, let me introduce you to Mr John Pease, ha ha ha. You boys made your bed and now you\'re gonna lay in it. Prepare to puke your breakfast frequently at practice. Your slacker days have just ended! My Advise, avoid the yellow chunks on the field. |

Even though it hasn\'t worked out for them in the last few years, I really like the way that Pittsburgh drafts, spending a lot of time trying to figure out what the guy\'s personality, character and work ethic are like. Trying to avoid some of these problems that seem to be epidemic with the Saints. I wish we could borrow a little of that draft philosophy, we might end up better off in terms of the players we draft. |

Again, another sign of ineptitude by the coaching staff..
How about the blocking at the LOS? Are they in jeopardy of being replaced also? Remember those 4 and 1\'s? Remember the hits on Deuce before he reached the LOS? Oh, no...let\'s put it on the WR\'s now that we used their coach as a scapegoat, and throw in \"Deuce could\'ve gotten 2000 yards\" to put the fans behind us.. great job, Haslett. Guess Horn is about to receive \"the treatment\". It\'s all about \"breaking the long one\".. Ball control be damned... |
