--agrees with Danno about Tebow.
About Redskins: The name is, what, 80 years old? They called theirselves Indians, and you had people calling themselves "colored," and
you still have people calling themselves coonazzes.
When you pick a mascot, you're choosing something that you think is
cool-- something you can rally around and fight for. Its done out of
admiration, not out of disdain. Otherwise you'd have the LA Japs, and the Cleveland Krauts. Whoever picked "Redskins" actually thought Indians
were heroic, and would be a good symbol.
We just get offendable with time, and decide this or that word bothers us. Thus we still have a United Negro College Fund, even though in any other use, it sounds wrong. Yet the News can call an entire group of people a name that means a gay sex act, and snicker about it.
I'd just like to see equality for everybody. So long as we have "Fighting" Irish-- how's that for a stereotype?, and "Ragin" Cajuns-- another anger management stereotype--- I think we should relax.
I personally think nobody should ever call anyone a "Hokie."
