Saints Draft Day Surprise predictions
OK every mock I've seen has us taking a DT, OLB, MLB, CB with our 1st 3 picks.
I think the Saints may surprise some folks with one of their 1st 3 picks. Of course, free agency will change everything, so this is just for Gits and Shiggles Surprises... Saints take WR with 1st 2nd round pick. (Michael Clayton or Devrey Henderson) If there is a Roy Williams or a Mike Williams still there at 18, and DJ Williams and Vilma are gone, I could see them drafting a WR with their 1st pick overall, and using 2A and 2B on a CB/LB combo. But I honestly think they are targeting Henderson with their 2B pick, or that kid out of V-tech. Reasoning: I think Haz and Venturi still believe they can get by with Hodge/Ruff/Grant/Allen for a year while a less heralded LB (like the GA Tech dude) develops for a year. I also think thats why they they may wait till 2A or 2B to get a corner if one of the top WR's are available. Thomas/Carter/Ambrose and a free agent CB allows them to develop a CB slowly. If Stallworth came out this year instead of 2001, he'd be the 4th WR taken. A 2004 version of Charles Tillman would be a perfect scenario. Not an immediate starter but a solid starter by years end. How do you think they will surprise us this year? |

Saints Draft Day Surprise predictions
I think we should wait until the 3rd round to get a RB. I have a feeling that Julius Jones is going to slip to the 3rd (because ND guys always slip, for whatever reason) and he would be a great addition. IMO, he has the talent to start in the NFL. He also has return ability, so he could contribute there.

If Denver does release Mike Anderson, I would go after him. He can play fullback, has great hands, and is a proven 1000 yard rusher.

Saints Draft Day Surprise predictions
Danno, I think you are dead on about the wide receiver pick. With USC\'s Williams entering the draft (or is he now?) the possibility for one of the top players at that position falling to us is very real. It sure would be a shame to skip over a possible defensive starter for a wide receiver who won\'t see the field most of the season. Which leads me to this question: If we do draft a receiver in the first round, do we deal/cut one of our current WRs? Who? |

This mock has us trading up to take Winslow. I think Winslow will be a good to great player in the pros, but I don\'t think it\'s even remotely a good idea to take him. Just what Haslett needs, a volatile, but talented player that puts his foot in his mouth in front of the TV cameras. We need another one of those guys like a hole in the head. I really do see us trading up though. For whom I\'m not sure, but I think it\'s pretty safe to say it will be a reach and a surprise. I wonder if maybe we should go to the Denny Green approach to the draft and just start taking the most talented player on the board, regardless of our need? |

No no no no no!!
Winslow would be a horrible pick. We just signed Boo to a new deal. Conwell is a solid starter who had a bad year. No way do I want to see us TRADE UP for a friggin tight end. Defense. We need defense. Even with the eighteenth pick, we can pick up a player who can start for us opening day. If we draft Winslow, when does he see the field? And how much will we really use him next year? .02 |

And whowatches, that\'s exactly why we probably will trade up to pick a TE. Unless this is more of the Saints misinformation tactics.
