Super at home, Saints eventually will be measured by road performance
What we learned watching the New Orleans Saints’ 31-17 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday night at the Superdome:
1. The Saints are at their best at home in the Superdome, especially in prime time, but they will be measured by what they do on the road. For the second consecutive week, they routed an NFC playoff contender, with—no surprise—Drew Brees and the offense executing at high level. It didn’t matter that it was a short week coming off the big win over the Giants on Monday night. Brees and his teammates came out super-sharp with great energy. On the road, they have proved to be less than ordinary at times, dropping games to two current last-place teams, Tampa Bay and St. Louis. The next two weeks bring critical test at Tennessee and Minnesota, which will give us a better indication of whether the Saints are capable of winning at Lambeau or Candlestick in January.
