The Saints are aiming to improve their situation at cornerback either through free agency or the draft, but they still are working to re-sign veteran CBs Fred Thomas and Fakhir Brown. Sources say head coach Jim Haslett wasn’t thrilled with the play of Thomas and Brown last season, but he’s looking to keep at least a little continuity in the secondary next season. That being said, we’re told the Saints are heavily scouting Virginia Tech CB DeAngelo Hall and Ohio State CB Chris Gamble with the hope that one of them will last until the 18th pick in the draft. Last season, the Saints sat in the same position in the draft, only to trade up to the No. 6 overall pick, where they selected DT Johnathan Sullivan. We hear the possibility that the Saints will trade up again this year isn’t quite as strong as it was last year, but if they did make a move, it could include dealing WR Donté Stallworth, who has been a disappointment for the team.

Man, I don\'t want to see Donte go. I really want to see him on the field producing like he should be this season. I\'m not saying that this would be a bad move, I\'m speaking purely emotionally here. I want to see that guy produce. We may need help at WR this season.

How is it that with Haslett, something that is a major strength always becomes a weakness within 2 or 3 years?

That major weakness became a \"major\" strengeth under Haslett. Number one, Donte isn\'t going anywhere. Number two, the WR\'s were banged up all season. Don\'t believe everything you read. You may actually start believing it!

Missing the point. Our D was good when Haslett got here. Now look at it. We went from starting Glover and Johnson on one side to Kenny Smith and Willie Whitehead at one point this season. Our linebackers have gotten worse and worse. We had two very good OTs, now we need at least one OT, and our best is average.

I\'m not saying that Haslett hasn\'t improved parts of this team. I\'m just saying that it seems to me that once a problem is \"fixed\" and made a \"strength\" he focuses elsewhere and that original part falls apart. See WRs, Special Teams, and the Offense at large in 2003.

I would think the problem of having good areas of your team becoming less strong over a course of years is a common problem among most teams in the league. We\'re able to recognize specific instances of this by the Saints because we make a daily evaluation of the current players, potential players, and lost players.

But to bring up Joe Johnson as a failed personnel decision by Haslet is unfair. You can put blame on Mueller for that. The org had a choice to keep either Glover or Johnson and made the wrong choice (even had they been able to retain Johnson). See, had we been able to sign Joe, he\'d likely have suffered the same injuries that have kept him out of most the past two seasons. He was suffereing from torn muscles in his arm and shoulder in his last season with the Saints. That problem has continued for him. Glover would have been the right choice and that is all on Mueller.

Haslett \"fixes\" this team in the same sense that a veterenarian \"fixes\" a tomcat.

BTW--If there was ever a year to trade Donte and pick up rookie receiver, this would be the one. There are lot of talented guys coming out this year. The only thing that militates against it is whether we could get any value for Donte.

With guys like Larry Fitzgerald, Mike, Roy and Reggie Williams coming out, who\'s really going to want to give up a decent pick for the hamstring kid?

If Stallworth could ever stay healthy he would put up monster numbers. Sad that the first word in my post is \"if\".

He started his rookie season like a man possesed. The man\'s got wheels (when he doesn\'t have a flat.) I hate the idea of letting him go just going by his athleticism and talent alone.

How many of you noticed the will that he had on the last play against the Jags? Between two guys. One guy tried to take the football from him and he ripped it back into his body and turned on the jets. The irony, though, of the Levitra play of the year is that Donte\'s lob to Lewis was rather limp.

Part of the reason that the Saints\' problem with inconsistency overall is player turnover. Obviously.

And no, not being overly harsh. Gandy isn\'t much more than average in the NFL.
