Roughing the Quarterback

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I know I'm biased, but does anyone else think the stripes leave their locker room with "throw a flag on the Saints for roughing the quarterback" right up there on their to do list? I have yet to agree with ...

Roughing the Quarterback

I know I'm biased, but does anyone else think the stripes leave their locker room with "throw a flag on the Saints for roughing the quarterback" right up there on their to do list? I have yet to agree with any one of those calls that seem to have been happening at least once every week this season. Last week I swear the ref had the flag out and was in the act of throwing it before any contact was even made. I applaud the aggressive play and hope those hankies don't put a stop to it.

It only looks like that because Brees is so efficient at avoiding the rush and getting rid of the ball and the Saints defense always arrive a second too late.

the call last nite was legit. Stupid, and legit.

I actually think we have been getting the calls lately- the fumble last week, P-Rob off side on the FG, THREE off pass int calls

I thought the call was right and the penalty was stupid play on our D.

I also think the Christmas avatars here offset the Saints penalties, as does 9-3.

This all goes back to the COnference Game in the 09 season when we tore the ass out of Favre. Then to start the 10 season Chilly Willy & the Vi-Queens were whining & boo-hooing like a bunch of 12 year old little bee-atches about how we were "mean to them". SInce that point we have a tendency to get a few more flags.

Agreed 100%. Last week, or the week before, I remember a ref grabbing his flag before the QB hit the ground and threw it as fast and hard as he could.

I think it was the 2-handed push on Will Smith.

Goddell has to do something. I know the players demanded a safer NFL but I think the pedulum has swung way too far in the other direction.

College football is a more manly game than the NFL. I never thought I'd see that day.

It's like FF said, they work hard and pass rush all game and come up 1/2 second late everytime,
and come up empty in the sack category. Now it starts to get frustrating.
After a while they decide that they will just lay a lick on him just to keep him thinking about pressure.
In those situations the timimg has to be right and the ref's trigger finger can't be twitching.
3rd down and 23 is not the time to make that kind of statement.

That Smith penalty is a perfect example of why penalties should be reviewable. at first glance Smith DOES lower his head, but doesn't lead with it

The calls we get seem to not be reviewable.....it kind of makes me wonder.
