Saints coach Sean Payton addressed the claim Monday, albeit in a manner that suggested he didn't take the situation even remotely seriously.

"I've got three theories on the whistle theory, and I think I've got the answer," Payton said during his news conference. "There is a high school field nearby and they were playing a game while our game was going on, so I thought maybe it was the high school whistle we heard."

That's theory No. 1. The runt of the litter.

"We weren't in Memphis; we were in Nashville," Payton went on, "so I saw a guy dressed in black and it looked like Johnny Cash, and maybe he was blowing a whistle in the crowd."

Most ridiculous claim I've ever heard from a losing team against another team in a game.

Payton's response should completely embarrass the Titan's organization and it's SPOT ON!

They had to cry about something. The Saints tried to give them the game they just couldn't take it from them.

I am going with serious neurosis as theory No 1. - extremely plausible
Then I am going with Whistle Monster as theory No 2 - cos I would like it to be so.

Funny thing about the Titans...

This is not the first time that there was a whistle blown during one of their games. The last time it happened was against the Steelers about 3 minutes before the half and the Titans had the ball at their own 20.

The Steelers actually thought it was the whistle for the end of the half and left the field. 6 plays later the Titans tried a long field goal.

If a whistle would have been blowing from the sideline the side judge or linesman would have put a stop to it. Bunch of whiners!
