MINNEAPOLIS — Former New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Remi Ayodele knew what he was going up against when his Minnesota Vikings faced his old team Sunday afternoon.

He, along with his new teammates, were powerless to stop Drew Brees’ pursuit of Dan Marino’s NFL single-season record for passing yards and were left to ponder the carnage Brees left in his wake in a 42-20 beating of the Vikings in Mall of America Field.

“The guy is very consistent,” Ayodele said after Brees moved closer to Marino and set two NFL records while reaching a personal milestone in a virtuoso performance. “He just knows what’s going on. He preps better than any quarterback I’ve ever played with.”

Brees completed 32 of 40 passes for 412 yards and five touchdowns and finished the day with a passer rating of 142.9.

He led his team to six touchdowns in seven meaningful possessions in shredding the Vikings’ pass defense before Chase Daniel replaced him in the fourth quarter.

While his list of accomplishments was long Sunday, Brees’ 412 passing yards pushed his total for the year to 4,780 yards. Brees needs just 305 more in the final two regular-season games to eclipse Marino’s 27-year-old record of 5,084 yards.

did anyone hear the announcers talking about Brees playing at his best ever right now, and Brees saying that he really felt 'dialed in'? I figured that was the kiss of death.
Glad to be proved wrong

Not only do we get to witness history. The guy making history is on our team. I make it a point every week to remind myself of the significance of what I'm seeing. We are very fortunate fans indeed!

Thing is Drew can't let up.... Brady is right on his heels, in the yardage as well... So I hope That Drew can break the Record against those Dirty Birds, couldn't think of a better team to break that record... Keep on going right into the Carolina game... This is a record he should have had in the Super Bowl year.. But he made a sacrifice.. SO I hope he does what it takes to stay ahead of Brady...

Unfortunately Atlanta is going to be a HUGE game for us. They have been playing well also. Saints could really shake it up with a domination over the Dirty Birds.
