this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; The way I see it, what should have been a truly special moment, something that should have happened in the context of the game, and made it tainted with questions. ...questions of whether the Failclowns can DEFEND THEMSELVES! This if ...

Were Saints right to run up score for Brees' record? - NFL - Yahoo! Sports
Get the distraction out the way. Any coach would have wanted to get it for his player in that situation, in New Orleans on MNF, in front of a national audience, and against their biggest rivals. I'm glad the Falcons players took it well. Heaven forbid if something like Tony Romo happened to Brees, he wouldn't had gotten the chance. |

Here's my take - if the Saints really wanted the record from the outset we could've attempted 50+ passes. But it would've put the outcome in jeopardy. I understand going for the record at the end and getting it because it was for the Saints fans and other NFL fans to see it happen on national TV. It might not sit well with some of the Falcons but admittedly it was an unusual circumstance.
What felt a bit strange to me was the celebration of the record after it happened. It was a great moment and Brees and the team are definitely worthy. But the logical part of my brain says that Brees could mathematically throw for -4 yards the next game and lose the record (ain't happening though). We also have to acknowledge Brady could have a monster game and outpace Brees. I personally would feel a little better celebrating the final yardage number Brees posts when the season is over and establishes the new record. |

Who cares what the score was all you got to do is stop them and you would'nt have that problems. Talk to you your coach and player for the bad play calling and the mistake they made. This is football lady's and gents you suppose to push guys around and take advantage of them they suck and that's it. Sportsmanship if the New England had the chance they would the samething.

As long as any player wears a New Orleans Saints uniform from the begnning of this frachise to the end of time the only way to get respect is going to have to be earned. Now if this was say, Pretty Boy Rodgers there would be the greatest thing that has ever happened in the NFL. I say bullsh!!, Brees eaned it and did it, he deseves to be #1, no one else has done it!!!!

This isn't an SEC team running it up on Georgia Southern or Furman, this is the NFL; there is no such thing as running it up in professional sports.
Guys have performance bonuses, players are trying to get better contracts, and we all know that half speed=injuries. Prisco is another 'writer' trying to be the story instead of writing the story |

Tweet from Chris Mortensen this morning:
@mortreport Chris Mortensen "Most ridiculous & shameful postgame stories I've read regard Falcons or media calling Saints classless for allowing Brees to go for record." At least intelligent people in the media get it. Most people in the media and around the league echo Mort's sentiments. Prisco is a hack. No professional writer would tweet that they think an opponent should take a personal foul on a player and risk injury. As for the Falcants players who anonymously said they didn't like what the Saints did, man up. If you're going to talk, put your name next to it. This is the NFL, not Pop Warner football. They're all professionals who are getting paid. If you don't want a team to score on you and break a record, stop them! |
