Brees' record-breaking night tainted by decision to go for it late - NFL - CBSSports.com News, Rumors, Scores, Stats, Fantasy Advice

hitta 12-27-2011 07:49 AM

That article is the most retarded article ever written in the history of the internet. Hell, I'd bet that even most Falcons fans understand why he did it last night. He didn't want that record hanging over them for another week. If he broke it next week, the media coverage of it would carry over into the postseason. Prisco should be fired for being stupid.

95shakinpf 12-27-2011 07:52 AM

Jeez this is just BS!!

CONGRATS DREW AND THE SAINTS FOR A STELLAR PERFORMANCE!!!

Go back to Atl and pout about it Failclowns!! Sore losers is all I can say about this whole article!

Prisco YOU SUCK!!

arsaint 12-27-2011 09:05 AM

Last time I heard the Atlanta D (which many have said is the best in our division during the season) was getting paid for the full 4 quarters of a game.

I remember us catching grief in the sports media one time having a big lead and kneeling it with 4+ minutes to go.

Can't win with the media, SO JUST WIN!!!

Seer1 12-27-2011 10:05 AM

I'm thinkin' there's some jack wagons out there who need a tissue and at least one columnist getting paid by the word who had some bills past due. If they didn't like the way their feelings were so hurt and their self esteem dropped like a wormy apple from a child's hands because the Saints chose to turn a 38-16 spanking into a 45-16 spanking, they shouldn't have let Drew complete that pass. I have to go now as I'm getting all teary eyed myself.... wait, never mind, just some indigestion from too much falcon pot pie....

iceshack149 12-27-2011 10:09 AM

A bloggers response to Prisco's sad article:

Grow up, Atlanta Falcons

Quote:

The Atlanta Falcons embarrassed themselves Monday night, and I'm not talking about the final score, which was 45-16 in favor of the New Orleans Saints.

I'm not talking about being victimized by Saints quarterback Drew Brees for the 304 passing yards he needed to break Dan Marino's single-season record of 5,084 yards (Brees finished with 307 yards, for a season total of 5,087).

I'm talking about the Falcons' reaction, late in the game and then afterward, to the sight -- shocking! -- of Brees still in the game, still throwing passes, in the final minutes.

The Falcons gestured and stared. They pouted and sulked. They gave our Pete Prisco passive-aggressive comments of the most gutless variety -- anonymously, because none of them had the stones to attach his name to it -- about the nerve (the nerve!) of Saints coach Sean Payton, who let Brees play the game for 60 full minutes.

Falcon's cry babies. Glad it was on their watch. Would like to make them come back here and give them one more beat down to show them they are not what they appear to be with their inflated ego's.

44Champs 12-27-2011 10:13 AM

As one commenter said, all the Falcons had to do was commit a penalty and force the saints to refuse it. Payton wouldn't have refused the penalty. We're just trying to win ball games. The falcons has 4 quarters to stop Brees, so they need to quit crying about the last drive.

Were Saints right to run up score for Brees' record? - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Get the distraction out the way. Any coach would have wanted to get it for his player in that situation, in New Orleans on MNF, in front of a national audience, and against their biggest rivals. I'm glad the Falcons players took it well. Heaven forbid if something like Tony Romo happened to Brees, he wouldn't had gotten the chance.

Prisco has a problem

Just read his tweet from last night when Drew Brees broke the record:

Falcons are pissed. But I would have have taken him out. Worth the fine. Worth the penalty.

I'm glad he's the spokesman for the Falcons. Funny how in all the press conferences I've viewed this morning no one from the Falcons have said a word about being pissed.

He's saying that a Falcons player should have hit Brees?

neugey 12-27-2011 10:59 AM

Here's my take - if the Saints really wanted the record from the outset we could've attempted 50+ passes. But it would've put the outcome in jeopardy. I understand going for the record at the end and getting it because it was for the Saints fans and other NFL fans to see it happen on national TV. It might not sit well with some of the Falcons but admittedly it was an unusual circumstance.

What felt a bit strange to me was the celebration of the record after it happened. It was a great moment and Brees and the team are definitely worthy. But the logical part of my brain says that Brees could mathematically throw for -4 yards the next game and lose the record (ain't happening though). We also have to acknowledge Brady could have a monster game and outpace Brees. I personally would feel a little better celebrating the final yardage number Brees posts when the season is over and establishes the new record.

Luda34 12-27-2011 11:16 AM

Who cares what the score was all you got to do is stop them and you would'nt have that problems. Talk to you your coach and player for the bad play calling and the mistake they made. This is football lady's and gents you suppose to push guys around and take advantage of them they suck and that's it. Sportsmanship if the New England had the chance they would the samething.

halloween 65 12-27-2011 11:32 AM

As long as any player wears a New Orleans Saints uniform from the begnning of this frachise to the end of time the only way to get respect is going to have to be earned. Now if this was say, Pretty Boy Rodgers there would be the greatest thing that has ever happened in the NFL. I say bullsh!!, Brees eaned it and did it, he deseves to be #1, no one else has done it!!!!

ScottF 12-27-2011 11:37 AM

This isn't an SEC team running it up on Georgia Southern or Furman, this is the NFL; there is no such thing as running it up in professional sports.
Guys have performance bonuses, players are trying to get better contracts, and we all know that half speed=injuries.

Prisco is another 'writer' trying to be the story instead of writing the story

LivnaLieTimay 12-27-2011 11:41 AM

Tweet from Chris Mortensen this morning:

@mortreport
Chris Mortensen
"Most ridiculous & shameful postgame stories I've read regard Falcons or media calling Saints classless for allowing Brees to go for record."

At least intelligent people in the media get it. Most people in the media and around the league echo Mort's sentiments. Prisco is a hack. No professional writer would tweet that they think an opponent should take a personal foul on a player and risk injury.

As for the Falcants players who anonymously said they didn't like what the Saints did, man up. If you're going to talk, put your name next to it. This is the NFL, not Pop Warner football. They're all professionals who are getting paid. If you don't want a team to score on you and break a record, stop them!

iceshack149 12-27-2011 11:45 AM

There's more. This from yahoo.com's Jason Cole:

Quote:

Were Saints right to run up score for Brees’ record?

Classy? Not so much, and Payton pretty much admitted that when he said he stretched his ethical standards for this situation.
“Someone is going to ask this question, so I am going to answer it before it’s asked,” Payton said. “Typically, would I be throwing there? … probably not. In fact, the answer is I wouldn’t be. But I thought it was appropriate to get [the record] and we did it.”

Once Again Like I Said Before. If It Was The Patriots We Wouldn't Be Hearing This BS....New Orleans Never Get Love From The Media And Honestly I Love It

saintfan 12-27-2011 12:52 PM

Okay so, earlier this year we were beating the snot out of somebody - I can't remember. Was it the Lions...or maybe NY? Was it last year? Damn I'm old...

Regardless, Sean took the foot off the gas and the media blasted him for not honoring the game, or some such BS.

NOW, with the most hallowed QB record on the line, at home, in front of 70 thousand record-crazed WhoDats, on Monday Night Football, against our most hated rival, we go for it.

And they don't like that either?

:censored: those mother :censored:ers is what I say.

TheEnigma 12-27-2011 02:11 PM

Prisco I hope you see this comment: You are an idiot and a failure as a writer.

arsaint 12-27-2011 02:18 PM

PY on the ESPN blog didn't seem to have a problem with it.

Honestly, if the ATL needs more motivation than winning a playoff game should they meet us again, then they don't belong in the playoffs.

Why complain about 32 yards and 7 points when you had already given up 400+ yards and 38 points???

If we really wanted to run it up, we could have called timeouts on Redman and dropped a 60 burger on you instead...

Kristomac 12-27-2011 05:20 PM

Brees' record-breaking night tainted by decision to go for it late - NFL - CBSSports.com News, Rumors, Scores, Stats, Fantasy Advice

This idiot has consistently ranked the Saints way lower than all other media outlets. He ALWAYS makes a Saints win all about how badly the other team played. In this article, he accuses Brees and Payton of being "classless" for going for the record when we already had the game won.

Payton SOOOO wanted to get the distraction of the Marino record out of the media. It's all anyone wanted to talk about. Monday Night Football...against the Falcons...For the Division win...What coach WOULDN'T make the same decision?!?!

Does Prisco (CBS) dislike the Saints because FOX carries the NFC games? Anybody have any thoughts on why Pete Prisco have such a beef against The Saints?!?

Pisco was very good friends with Jim Haslett.

I really don't like labeling anyone in the media as haters ... but, if anyone does deserve the label it is Pete Prisco. He has made a living off of trying to tear down the Saints' success. As Danno pointed out, this could be related to his friendship with Haslett.

But, I am pretty sure others in the media world have already discounted any credibility for Prisco when it comes to the Saints. Ignore it. Non-story.

Don't forget that it was also Prisco that claimed the Saints pissed on the Falcons' logo. He's an idiot.

The Failcons think that they're gonna use this as an excuse to get all fired up to play us again in a couple weeks? They better realize that the Saints are gonna use their whining complaints to get even more PO'd for the next time we play them at our house and it just may be even worse for them next time around. Best to take your medicine and shut the F up.

Last Failcons game...against Jacksonville...ATL 41 - JAX - 14...
Whats the damn difference? Why did they run the score up on th Jags?
Was that called classless? And why not? Because there was no record breaking involved?
OK rant off! Sorry, this whole article makes me sick!

iceshack149 12-28-2011 10:43 AM

Sorry for keeping this thread going since we're all in agreement that Prisco is a biased dope, but even Kordell Stewart proved him wrong. Prisco is in the minority and it's apparent that the "unnamed Falcons players" are scared punks that are too weak to put their name on their comments.

Heath Evans on twitter has consistently called the Falcons and their fans "whiny." --He also says that Detroit fans are the worst and most unoriginal.

Euphoria 12-28-2011 10:48 AM

I LOVE THIS...

Let them hate!!!

Look we have been the doormat for way to long. The most hated teams in the NFL are the teams that win.

EVERYONE... Welcome to WINNING!!!
