NEW ORLEANS-- Saints running back Mark Ingram is expected to undergo season-ending toe surgery this week, according to reports.
Though that would be a disappointing finish to Ingram's rookie season, it shouldn't affect the Saints much during their playoff run. The Saints have three healthy tailbacks who have all been playing at a high level down the stretch‹Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory. Ivory rushed 19 times for 127 yards and a touchdown Sunday in the blowout victory over Carolina. The Saints set a franchise record by averaging 4.9 yards per carry this season, which tied them for fourth in the NFL. They've been especially good in the running game during the second half of the season, with their offensive line playing at a high level. On Sunday, the Saints threw for more than 400 yards and ran for more than 200 in a strong and balanced performance to end the regular season. I'm not sure those reports are accurate. In the postgame report Drew mentioned getting Mark back for the playoffs.
And as usual Payton didn't acknowledge those reports, nor deny them. |

It stinks if it is true, I wish him well and a speedy recovery. On the other hand it also stinks that the Lions poached Bell from our pratice squad and now we have to face them with a player I wish we could have now to replace Ingram. On the upside Ivory is the showing he can be the man period. Ivovy, PT, and Mighty Mouse will be a great trio and get us there, we have not missed a beat. PT is still the best.

LOl are you calling Sproles Mighty Mouse? I know you mean it with love because the guy is smart, short, strong, fearless, hard to be tackled, slips through the oponents defense, needs on him is a cape with the letter S.
Ingram, that hurts. He is so deserving of playing the next game. |

It's kinda sad that that toe is giving him so much trouble, but I don't trust Ingram in short yardage as much as I trust Ivory, PT, in the clutch.

I'm not sure what the averages show, but I always thought Ivory was probably going to be as good as Mark. I'm sure someone is going to let me know!
I like the way Payton allows players to heal, rather than rushing them back into service. It's best he sit it out, and have the surgery he needs. He's young, and I think their chances are good again in the following years, judging by their regular great performance. Sproles is amazing--unlike Bush, he takes the inside tac, instead of heading to the sidelines, and his acceleration is what gets him through holes others might not make. He's got the zero-60 thing going well, he's a drag racer, and durable it would seem. There was one tackle that I saw made the other day, where he seemed to wince, to be in pain a bit. I hope he's OK. Hopefully we'll make it to GB, and that will more than likely be a shoot-out of course, and I hope we end up ahead at the end, unlike the first game. I think we're a better team now, than at the beginning, including Ivory. I like that Arrington guy too. |
