Saints snag Folau
Unrestricted free-agent offensive lineman Spencer Folau, 30, agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the Saints on Friday night, The Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Sun-Sentinel reported in today's editions. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but the deal is believed to include a signing bonus of around $1 million. Folau visited Miami on Friday, and according to sources close to the negotiations, his visit sparked a heated bidding war between the Dolphins, Saints and Baltimore Ravens. All three clubs submitted multi-year contract offers to Folau's agent, but the Saints eventually lured the versatile seven-year veteran by increasing the amount of guaranteed money in the deal. The 6-foot-3, 315-pound Folau started 16 games at right tackle for the Saints before losing his starting spot to Victor Riley last season. Folau played in 14 games before being placed on the injured reserve list Dec. 19 with season-ending knee surgery. Folau underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon in his left knee.
