Lee (44.0) and Morstead ranked 1-2 in the NFL in net average, and they were first and fourth in gross average at 50.9 and 48.3, respectively. The difference was Lee had 78 punts, 32 more than Morstead’s 46.

“He is the best in the game right now, so I’m looking forward to playing against him,” Morstead said. “He is a lot like (Oakland’s) Shane Lechler … he likes to blast the ball down the field. We’ve got a great returner in Darren Sproles, so it’ll be interesting.

“Guys with big legs like to compete against guys with big legs,” he said. “So I’m looking forward to it.”

Morstead wouldn’t mind if he didn’t have to show off his punting skills at all against Lee, who’s been among the NFL’s best for several years now.

After coming close several times this season, Morstead didn’t have to punt against the Lions. The Saints scored seven times and lost two fumbles before running out the clock on their last possession.

“It almost happened a few other times this season,” a smiling Morstead said about not having to punt. “There were four where I had only one punt, so if it didn’t happen, it was fine with me as long as we’re not turning the ball over. As long as it’s because we’re scoring points, it’s OK with me.”
