They look great. Its gonna have to take a good game from Brees to beat these guys.
On the flip side, I don't think they're gonna be scoring a lot. We'll struggle to score 30. They'll struggle to score 20. |

Good stuff. Just looked at the play by play from that game, and the 49ers did an onside kick that lead to 3 points, and they got from 12 to 27 points because the Giants punter shanked a punt 29 yards and gave them the ball on the 50. Eli then threw an int that gave them the ball on the Giants 17 which lead to their other td. So turnovers and short fields is what they thrive on. That is what we have to eliminate.

The video showed me a few other things too. Giants had a grossly predictable pass game. They flat out said they ran the same personnel, formation and patterns 3 times in the game and the same as they did continuously in prior games. Add that to the fact they were the worst rushing team in the NFL, frankly a defense had little to respect.
Saints are the masters of the personnel/formation/play type roulette wheel. We probably have the least amount of consistent tendencies of any team in the league. And we can run the football. Apples to blocks of wood in comparison here. Can the Niners generate pressure with 4? Likely, although we are again head and shoulders better in protection than the Giants example here. I think we'll force them to bring that 5th and at times 6th more than they want to leaving us mismatches in the zones. The big difference between our offense and one like the Giants is that we don't let the defense dictate what we will do (something San Fran does to people). We dictate to them how they have to defend us. We need to keep their D out of that comfort zone and reactive to us. I fully believe in our coaches ability to adjust beyond what theirs will be able to match. |
