So we lost
I'm not that surprised, We were playing a very good team in their house with a stadium packed with crazed fans. Did you hear that crowd? It was wild. The SF defense is extremely tough and Alex Smith isn't the hopeless loser most fans in N.O. want to make him out to be.
Turn overs killed us but we blame it all on our guys when in fact three of them were good plays by them. They forced those TOs just like we did to the Vikings in 09. Are you going to blame Thomas for getting knocked out cold? Brees for trying to get something going by trying to thread the needle like he's done a thousand times? Sproles? Come on, give the 9ers their due. They were+28 in turnovers this year. Without the TOs we win this game. Our team fought back gallantly. (yeah, gallantly) The O Line did a good job most of the night against what looked to me like the best front 7 in the NFL. Brees showed why the people who actually watch him every week think he's the best QB in the game. Sproles Graham and Colston are warriors. The defense was solid for 56 minutes. SF was no less heroic. They never stopped coming. They refused to lose that game and Alex Smith was perfect at what he was supposed to do. In the end though GW let us all down. If it wasn't for him this would have been the greatest win in Saints history. (Other than the Super Bowl.) If we can keep the core of this team together and find a sane DC we'll win it in the Dome next year. WHO DAT!! |

It ain't a so we lost for me. Woke up early and I feel so frustrated I am unliveable.
I have rerun the game in my mind with what ifs. It semms almost any one play difference means we win. So damned annoying. |

So many awful seasons in Saints history. This isn't one them. Won the south, won a wild card, and the Falcons and Tampa got dismantled.
On top of that, we dumped Reggie and in exchange got a player more productive than anyone could have imagined. The Saints also set numerous team and NFL records. Other than a SB victory, there wasn't anything left to hope for this season. I'll take it. It's a great time to be a Saints fan! The loss hurt without question but ask yourself this question; How many teams can say they have a legit chance of getting deep into the playoffs next year? Saints are not done. So many great seasons still ahead...WHO DAT!! |

Good post Boutte.
It was good news/bad news. The good news is that even with 5 TO's, on the road, versus a team that had two weeks to prepare for us, we were still up a point with 90 seconds to go. The bad news was 5 TO's. You are correct. Without those TO's, we win this game by two, maybe 3 scores. But thats how the 49ers play. |

Losing to the "13-3" division winning 49ers doesn't sting nearly as much as losing to the 7-9 Seachickens did.
Saints could/should have won both games. We all knew that the 49ers could not beat us if we didn't help them. Only the Saints could lose a game after doing this to the 49ers: After the first quarter Sunday, the 49ers’ drives resulted in punt, punt, punt, fumble recovery, field goal (after going three yards), punt, punt, punt, field goal. This one hurts as much as the game the Saints were up like 35-3 on the 49ers and lost 35-38. |
