Correct me if I am wrong but Spags and DW coach the same way and have the same defensive philosophy?

So we lose and gain pretty much the same coach?

|Mitch| 01-16-2012 06:47 PM

I heard a rumor on WWL radio this morning that Jack Del Rio enrolled his son in Newman[private college prep school in New Orleans]

gandhi1007 01-16-2012 06:50 PM

I like it! Del Rio is a great LB coach and that is one of our biggest holes.

RaginCajun83 01-16-2012 07:25 PM

Landing Del Rio would be huge, Id love the hire. Greg thanks for 2009 but you wore out your welcome and after 2 horrible playoff performances by the defense it was time to part ways

I really, really hope you are right about this...

Euphoria 01-16-2012 08:53 PM

This is exactly what I been calling for since week 4.

I wanted him gone. Look the guy can call a blitz every damn play who can't do that?

What we need is a teacher to teach up and coach up some of the younger talent we had. We were only good in 2009 because of Sharper... his leadership and the way he coached up the secondary. Look back to those games when you saw him teaching and talking to the players after a good or bad play. Then look at the past 2 seasons and see who is coaching up the players... NO ONE.

Euphoria 01-16-2012 08:55 PM

Relax guys it doesn't take a Coach to call a blitz on every play. A monkey can do it.

GW is OVERATED!!!

Ashley 01-16-2012 10:08 PM

It's time for a change. Glad it's here....

SapperSaint 01-16-2012 10:14 PM

Who says Christmas only comes once a year!

spkb25 01-16-2012 10:31 PM

God I would really love Del Rio

QBREES9 01-17-2012 12:18 AM

Thanks Greg for all you did during the Super Bowl run. Thanks again. Good luck to you with the Rams.

I've said enough time to move on, and look to next year.

Forget about it. It is spelled incorrectly more than any other word and I don't know why.

For the record...another word...definitely...is very commonly spelled "definately".

In the end, though, I am being a real hypocrite (sp? :)) because if it were up to me we would adopt a new rule when it comes to English and spelling. We are already in the midst of it with our "chat" lingo...so why not just go out and make it official. A word is spelled the way you want to spell it.

xampl... tough is now tuff

Kinda weerd...no?

Saint_LB 01-17-2012 05:53 AM

If my choices are the ones listed previously, I want Del Rio. One thing I like about him is that he is a former Saint, and he was pretty well liked while here.

I am not sold on Spags. The year the Giants put on a defensive performance to win the SB, '07, was not really a great year defensively for the Giants. I can remember posting after 3 games into that season that it was the worst defense I had ever seen...and that coming from a guy who has watched the Saints from the very beginning! I think he got all of his recognition from that one game...a game where his front 4 decided to show-up in a major way.

Somebody mentioned Haslett, and if my memory serves me correct, he did a pretty decent job as a DC just about everywhere he went. He had that one brain-fart when it came to AB, so head coaching material he isn't...but the dude knows defense. If he is available, I would certainly give him a look-see.

I think I just threw up in my mouth :puke:

UK_WhoDat 01-17-2012 06:07 AM

We will see if GW can get the upper hand of the 49ers. 2 times a year. Surely he stands a chance

skymike 01-17-2012 06:08 AM

dont let the door hit your ass, GW.

subguy 01-17-2012 06:55 AM

It is a good move for the Saints and GW, obviously he didn't want to be here.

Not at all. When Spagnolo was with the Giants and then the Rams they got great pressure with their front four.

Seer1 01-17-2012 07:34 AM

I've said this before, but I'll mention this again. What about that Kirby Smart the DC of Alabama? I know it's a different level, but if he can step it up a notch.....

Mardigras9 01-17-2012 08:23 AM

Thanks, see you. It's time for a change anyway.

aquaboogie 01-17-2012 08:54 AM

Maybe he will take the Mr. Blitz Strong safety with him.

Speedy Ron 01-17-2012 10:29 AM

i happy...maybe the new guy can stop a terrible offense with 40 seconds left to play

FinSaint 01-17-2012 10:32 AM

I can't say I'm upset with this news and it will be nice to see a new face on the Saints' sideline next season - and if anything it will create some excitement for the pre-season and the next regular season.

And for the record Spags was also a LB coach in Philly, so I wouldn't say Del Rio would be the best choice simply because he has that LB experience.

Haslett wasn't too impressive with the Redskins and I think he is under contract with them too - nevertheless, I wouldn't like to see the Saints sign him if he'd be available.

Spags or Nolan... 50/50 ...it is kind of interesting to think that one of these guys might sign with the Saints and the other one with the Failclowns.

Luda34 01-17-2012 10:59 AM

IT'S OFFICIAL: Sean Payton - Gregg Willliams to the Rams, Brees likely stays at Saints

From Jeff Duncan's Twitter - In a press conference today Coach Sean Payton said they will keep an open mind in his search for a new defensive coordinator now that Gregg Williams is headed to the Rams. Said he does not have a "profile" for the job. All backgrounds considered.

Quote:

Payton n GW: "Gregg's meant a lot to us and has been a big reason for the success we've had."
Quote:

Payton said he would be stunned if Drew Brees wasn't a Saint next year: "I don't think 'stunned' is a strong enough word for it."
Quote:

Payton on the offseason & improvement: "We've got to find the next Carl Nicks the next Jahri Evans and the next Marques Colston."
https://twitter.com/#!/JeffDuncanTP

LATER GW!Sorry didn't bring Link...@Work.
Chic on the radio said Payton confirmed GW a goner in a press conference!

FinSaint 01-17-2012 01:46 PM

Why "the next Jahri Evans"...?

The last time I looked he was under contract through the 2016 season becoming an UFA in 2017.

Hope he never takes his flight back as happened with Kreutz last pre-season, although, clearly I'm hoping for a better outcome than with Kreutz's singing.

After listening to the whole press conference that sentence continued with also "the next Jimmy Graham" and SP was talking about the continuity of the process of improving the team from year to year.

He said something like: "you guys might look at the offense and say that there's nothing that needs to be done to it for next season, but we won't. It's an ongoing process where we are always looking for the next...."[the earlier quote]

So, nothing to be concerned about... :smokin:

Well 5 out of the last 10 were offensive teams basically. This year is still up for grabs. New England may make it 6 out of 11 for Offenses winning championships..

Pats defense has been injured all year which has led to them being under rated, I think. If they want to win the Superbowl, they will have to play SOME defense because I don't see Brady scoring at will against any of the defenses left in the tourney....

The saying should be "BALANCE wins Championships," IMHO...

You can have the best offense out there but you've got to be able to play SOME D, and vice versa. We couldn't play a lick of defense at the end of the game Saturday...we lost...

Of course, I could be completely wrong. We'll see. :D

9thWardDesire 01-17-2012 06:40 PM

Yep, teams that suck on offense or defense rarely win.

Most are upper tier on both sides of the ball.
