Gregg Williams re-joins Fisher in St. Louis
1 Attachment(s)
This isn’t a huge surprise, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that New Orleans offensive coordinator Gregg Williams is expected to leave the Saints and join Jeff Fisher in St. Louis.
Williams worked for Fisher in Tennessee and the two are close friends. Williams’ contract with New Orleans is expiring and there had been speculation he would join Fisher. Williams joined the Saints in 2009 and his trademark opportunistic defense came up with lots of turnovers as New Orleans won the Super Bowl that season. But Williams’ defense wasn’t able to produce turnovers at anywhere near the same rate in 2010 or 2011. The Saints’ defense collapsed late in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s playoff loss to San Francisco. If Williams hadn’t already made a decision on his future, the two late touchdowns scored by the 49ers might have sealed his fate. I never got the sense Williams and head coach Sean Payton were especially close and Payton might have been looking to make a change after what happened Saturday. This is not Breaking News.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that New Orleans offensive coordinator Gregg Williams is expected to leave the Saints and join Jeff Fisher in St. Louis. Will see. |
and me....
|
Pure Speculation.
Poor reporting. |
I changed the title so no one would think it was actually final yet..... my bad

No problem

usually Adam Schefter is on the money though
|
Why does Fisher even want him?

This is the same report from what, 2 weeks ago. It's like a speculation bump...not that there's anything wrong with that...

He runs a pretty good offense hey wait who's on D? Good bye. He had 2 chances to hold them in the last 4 minutes and couldn't deliver. Let's get someone in who's going to pay to the entire defense not just a lackluster pass rush.
|
Thanks KingC. Rumors , rumors...There is not his official word yet, but this seems all but a done deal now. This case seems very true. Saints out. No reason not to have an official comment now. No one comments on coaching changes during the end of the season or Playoffs, if a team is that far.
Now Saints, out, I bet official comment is coming as soon as this week. |
Good.
|
totally fine with me...what i witnessed yesterday sealed it for me.
this season, sealed it for me...we need to change gears on the D side...thanks for the SB, gregg, but you're not getting it done, and haven't been since. |

To think he'll go give me something to look forward to. GO GET SPAGS NOW!!!!! |

2009 was the best iteration of the defense made up of young and aging talent. When Sharper wasn't able to return, letting Fujita go, and Vilma showing age, this defense has been a sub-par version of its 2009 self. The Saints must make changes on D to have a chance at championships. End of story. |
I think losing our secondary coach to Denver after '09 hurt more than Sharper not coming back.
And Vilma is undersized anyway, relies on speed to make plays. Too bad the speed really isn't there anymore... |
Can someone tell me which line to get in to shake his hand "Goodbye"?
DVR'ed the game (By the way, is the BEST way to watch a game) just sickening to watch the defense. I said repeatedly back before SP got here; COACHING is VERY IMPORTANT! Oh and by the way..... GET RID OF SHANLE! This guy blows donkey! I don't understand why he keeps getting extentions. Is he paying the Saints money, not to cut him? Thanks for the first couple year GW.... but you sir, got lazy and predictable. |
This definitely makes me feel just a little better about the loss
|
It is time for GW to go. And here is why. The last drive of yesterdays game when we had the 9ers pinned at their own 15 & we did not put pressure on smith and they moved right down the field & scored the winning TD. That is why. While the D played well the rest of the game it was that last drive that did Williams in. Especially if the Giants beat the Packers today (giants are up to 10 at the half). With a Saints win & a Packers lost the NFC championship game would have been in the DOME! It is unforgiveable, for the Saints, to have had the lead with 1:47 mins left & loose it with a walkoff TD by the 9ers. I say lets go for Jack DelRio for D coordinator.
|
as many of us have said, GW is a one trick pony...his schemes work at first because the opposition doesn't know who will be comming on the blitz or from where it will come...after he gets into his game, he is easy to predict...he brings the heat and everyone knows it...problem is that its never realy "exotic"...its the same guys...harper and jenkins all the time...identify the DB who has crept up to the box and there is your blitzer...his creativity really shows through when he has a player up front to start then they have to sprint back to the coverage responsibility(which leaves them sadly out of position and winded from sprinting)...he can have one maybe two good seasons with a team then he is figured out and exploited

Bye.......

I say Adios. Just my personal opinion. I'll even pay to fly him to St. Louis. I think its time to revamp our defense.

A change is needed at dc anyway. Those last two Whiners drives saw to Dat! |
Thank God! They can have him.

I thought N.O. was embarrassing until I watched the Packers. Now the Giants' get to head to SF. |

Considering all the first round players on the D-line, maybe we should aim our pitchforks and torches towards Bill Johnson.
New Orleans Saints: Bill Johnson |
Yes my wish is close to coming true!!!
|
After yesterday's game, I can't say I'm sad to see him go. Thanks for everything Gregg. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
|
Maybe they will hire Bill Cower. Now that would be an excellent fit!!!! I feel like Williams had a god run, but proved he hasn't been able to find the right mix of plays to keep up with todays offenses. Its kind of strange that we only lost two key players in Sharper and Fujita and all of the sudden we had a lethargic defense dont you think?

My only question to the rest of the fan base is: Can you really blame poor tackling, blown coverage, and piss poor penetration at the line of scrimmage on the coach? Our guys can only be coached so much, its up to the players to hit there assignments each time they are on the field. Finger pointing and playing the blame game isnt going to fix anything. If you are on that field and you are getting paid more money than 97% of the rest of America you had better play like you are the best at what you do!!!!! A coach is only as good as the players he puts on the field. Just look at the 21 irrefutable laws of leadership written by John Maxwell. Do you think any of the leaders we had in the history of America played the blame game? I honestly believe that GW's schemes would have worked better if our players had more heart. Too many times it looked like our defenders would just give up on the plays.

LOL....Maybe we should bring back Haslette?
