Not having a #1 pick may be good for us

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Not having a first round pick means not having to pay first round money. Pair that with the rookie pay scale and we have enough to pay Nicks, Evans, and Colston. We have skill in finding late round picks who ...

Not having a first round pick means not having to pay first round money. Pair that with the rookie pay scale and we have enough to pay Nicks, Evans, and Colston. We have skill in finding late round picks who turn out to be winners, lets hope we get some defensive help.

Since the compromise, 1st rounders are a heck of alot cheaper. I don't get this logic.

We're picking late in the 1st round. That pick will be cheap.

And a lot of people don't realize that Mark Ingram isn't making a ton of money. As Ghandi pointed out 1st rounders make a fraction of what they used to.

Ingram barely made more than Vet minimum this year.
Year__Base___Bonus____CapHit
2011 375,000 97,250 - 472,250
2012 712,125 97,250 - 809,375
2013 1,049,000 97,250 - 1,146,250
2014 1,387,000 97,250 - 1,484,250

In comparison, Chris Ivory made 406,667

Pierre Thomas amade 3,340,000 this season.

Didn't we trade this years pick to the Patriots so we could move up and get Ingram.
I thought we traded our 1st round pick of this year to get ingram, so we don't even have a first round pick this year right?

this is correct unless I've missed something somewhere.

(and we traded it to the dang Patriots, so they have like 560 picks over the next two years.)

We have DE's, lots of them, I could see getting rid of Smith for a pick or trade, we also have Romeus waiting in the wings, I think we are set there. LB's, I also want 1 more that is heavy, with speed. I really want 2 DT's, that is the need I see. Maybe we can get a pick for Ellis also. All of this is going to depend on the new DC but getting rid of those 2 overhyped players would clear up some cap space. Vilma has to go too.

Oops, I meant "we were picking late" referring to last year, and we'll be picking late again this year. And if we had a 1st, it would have been cheap.

I combined two thoughts into one, along with typos just to confuse the hell out of everyone.

This is why I think we resign Brees, Nicks and Colston. Top teir guys with expired contracts gets us nothing. To make any kind of serious moves we gonna have to drop some of these high priced, low output defensive guys. They the ones sucking up all the cap room.
