Financial benefit to being in playoffs or SuperBowl
I have a question for you knowledgeable people: What are the financial benefits of a team making the playoffs and particularly winning the SuperBowl?
There must be more than bragging rights. I'm sure players and head coaches get more advertising gigs, but is that it? |

The financial benefit to the players is mainly indirect...it occurs when it comes around to negotiate their next contract, or to restructure an existing deal. Being part of a past Super Bowl team is a big deal regardless of whether you stay with the same team or go somewhere new. Or in a coach's case, having the ring often means $$$ at the next job. Also it's not monetary, but let's not underestimate, among pro athletes in general (not just football), having the championship ring or the gold medal, your name inscribed on the Stanley Cup etc, is a HUGE deal, to separate the "men" from the "boys" so to speak. It can also mean financial benefit after the sports career as well -- speaking engagements, personal appearances, paid autograph signings, memorabilia etc. Everybody loves a winner.

Players don't have immediate monetary benefit, but their stock rises for future contracts as being part of teams that ran through the playoffs.
From a business/vendor prespective, all websites, merchandisers etc. see a huge impact from the Saints moving through the playoffs. When they lose, the impact is hard and heavy. BlackandGold.com makes a commission from sales of goods in the fan shop. This year was better than last as we won 1 playoff game. Last year was a mega fall off in sales by losing the wildcard. Making it to the SB in 2009 was the "mother load" of commission checks. Just some insite.... |

Interesting, thanks. I'm curious about the team itself. Any incentives?
