He was undrafted and plays fullback. All Washington gets is the right of first refusal. If we sign him, they get nothing. |

I don\'t know what kind of player this guy is, but I think this is a well thought out move by Loomis. The Redskins have been mortgaging their world to bring in FA\'s in an attempt to win a superbowl. That ought to make them prime targets of this type of harassment.
Like I said, I don\'t know about the player, but nice move anyway. |

Saints hoping the Redskins cannot match them
From what I remember he was pretty good, but hasn\'t done a whole lot the last couple years because Spurrier didn\'t really \"do\" fullbacks. He didn\'t fit in to Spurriers 1 QB, 10 Recievers offensive strategy.
If I remember, he isn\'t quite the blocker T-Rex was, but he still was pretty good. He is definitely more versatile though, he can catch passes and carry the rock if needed. It makes me wonder why we signed Sam Gash? [Edited on 20/3/2004 by Cadillac] |

Same reason they signed 17 RBs this offseason. They\'ve begun to realize that they won\'t get a Joe Horn every time so they have to increase the number of maybes if they want to find that diamond in the rough.
Anyway, I saw the stats, they\'re not all that telling. Does anyone know anything about this guy? Can anyone give us more insight? What did they offer him. I guess I\'m glad that they signed a FB other than Gash, no matter who it is, but this guy isn\'t exactly making me excited. Did we offer close to league minimum? |

Saints hoping the Redskins cannot match them
From wire reports
Keeping to his 18-point offseason plan, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has attempted to bolster the fullback position by offering a four-year qualifying offer to restricted free agent Bryan Johnson of the Washington Redskins. Johnson, 6 feet 1, 245 pounds, was offered a four-year contract Friday after a day-long visit. Redskins\' officials have until Friday to match or reject the offer. Johnson was an undrafted rookie coming out of Boise State in 2001, meaning no compensation is applicable if the Redskins decline to match the offer. On Tuesday, the Saints signed 12-year veteran free agent fullback Sam Gash to a one-year contract. At the time, Loomis said he planned to upgrade the position. The Redskins have offered Johnson the minimum one-year tender of $628,000 for a restricted free agent. Saints officials are hoping their offer will dissuade Redskins owner Daniel Snyder from matching. Johnson has started 25 games the past two seasons. Last season, he caught 33 passes for 314 yards. He has fewer than 10 NFL carries, none last season, according to a Saints spokesman. |
