The Redskins said at the start of free agency they would match any offer for their four restricted free agents, but vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato didn't have much to say about the Saints' cap-unfriendly offer.
"No comment right now," Cerrato said. "We'll take our time with it." According to several sources familiar with the offer sheet, New Orleans' pact is valued at about $4.3 million over four years and contains several clauses that could dissuade the Redskins from matching....... Ahhh, the advantage of having Loomis. The contract is filled with incentives, both attainable and unattainable. Either way the skins have to match the value of both. If I read the report right. It was a pretty shrewd move. If Wash matches they have to overpay for him. If they don\'t match we get him much cheaper than the face value of the contract and owe them zero compensation.
Looks like they kinda snookered ole Danny Boy. Maybe it\'ll pisss him off enough to offer Hodge a contract and try to STEAL him from us , we refuse to match and get a 2nd or 3rd rounder or whatever for him. That would be just too sweet. Now if we could only match a player personnel guy with Loomis\'s financial savvy we\'d have one hell of a GM. |

We had a hell of a GM. He got fired. Notice also how the drafts haven\'t been as productive as they were under Mueller.

Redskins unlikly to match Saints offer to FB johnson
this is just stupid
we\'re gonna pay this guy a little over 4 mil for 4 years? isn\'t that what cleveland paid t-rex? a little over 4 mil for 4 years? isn\'t this guy the same age as t-rex? aren\'t both guys blocking FB\'s and not running/recieving threats? SO WTF!!!!!!!!?????? t-rex has been in our system for years now, has a rapport with deuce and AB, t-rex is a proven blocking asset, this guy? who knows, spurrier\'s system sucked so it\'s hard to tell if the backfield in washington couldn\'t pick up blitzes because they suck or because the scheme sucked either way i don\'t understand this, i was pissed when we let t-rex go and now i\'m even more pissed |

We aren\'t paying him that much. Here\'s a summary similar to the article I read... http://washingtontimes.com/sports/20...4925-2126r.htm …Johnson, 26, brings no compensation because he was undrafted out of Boise State in 2000. A linebacker in college, he evolved into a solid blocking fullback and terrific special teams player. He could start at H-back in coach Joe Gibbs\' offense. According to several sources familiar with the offer sheet, New Orleans\' pact is valued at about $4.3million over four years and contains several clauses that could dissuade the Redskins from matching. The first element is an immediate $800,000 roster bonus with no signing bonus. Roster bonuses, unlike signing bonuses, are not prorated over the life of the contract, and this one serves to give Johnson a high first-year cap number. That figure is further inflated by a second element: \"likely to be earned\" incentives that Johnson almost certainly will not earn. The incentives, based on a technicality in NFL player contracts, raise Johnson\'s first-year cap figure. Because he is virtually certain not to earn them, the Saints (or Redskins) would get a cap rebate for the incentives\' value in 2005. So the face value of the contract Washington would have to match isn\'t what Johnson would actually end up costing us. Extremely shrewd move, its predatory free-agent targeting.
