Saints FB Jed Collins finished the 2011 season as Pro Football Focus' top-rated lead blocker in the league.

Collins is best known to fantasy leaguers for vulturing four short-yardage touchdowns (two rushing, two receiving) from Mark Ingram et al, but he was a battering ram for New Orleans. The Saints' team yards-per-carry average leaped from 4.0 (22nd in the NFL) in 2010 to 4.9 (fourth) in 2011. In terms of all-around performance, Pro Football Focus rated only Vonta Leach higher among fullbacks. Leach got an All-Pro nod. Collins got nada.

I love Jed Collins. This guy showed his potential right off the bat. I love the fact that the Saints are a pass first team but we have a severely underrated fullback who will only continue to bolster our running game. Not to mention the fact that he has proven to be a receiving threat... as much as a fullback can be.

I thought who is jedidiah? Then I watched the dude block and man.....remember when we thought Heath Evans was the FB for the future, Jed is the man

I admit that after pre-season I thought they would just go with Hall playing both the FB and in the ST unit, and only use 1 roster spot for a FB.

Also, I thought that they should've tried to sign Vonta Leach, who openly stated in an interview that he wanted to come to NO. Of course, I don't know if they tried to sign him, but found his price tag too high.

I didn't think Collins would end up being as good as he was with the background he had of being shown the door all around the NFL - so I have to admit I was wrong about that.

But, I still think that Leach is a much better run blocking FB than Collins, and with a weaker O-Line to work with - he wouldn't have had the season he did.
