Saints: Who could stay and who could go - Receivers, Specialists

Saints: Who could stay and who could go - Receivers, Specialists | wwltv.com New Orleans

Receivers and Specialists:
Receiver: Marques Colston, Lance Moore, Robert Meachem, Devery Henderson, Adrian Arrington, Courtney Roby
Specialists: Thomas Morstead, John Kasay, Justin Drescher, Garrett Hartley

Colston: The biggest question in the receiver group, and indeed in all of the skill positions, is what happens with Colston. He’s due for a big raise and contract and will certainly get looked at by other teams. But if the Saints can come to an agreement with Brees prior to free agency, Colston might be available for the franchise tag (which also could go to LG Carl Nicks). Despite not playing in two games with a broken collarbone, Colston still finished with 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns. He’s one Brees’ favorite targets and big, reliable receivers aren’t exactly found every day. There’s a reason his services will make him a hot commodity. In the end, what Brees wants, Brees gets and we think Brees will want Colston to return at any cost so he returns.

Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over, over, and over again...and expecting a different outcome!

Which is exactly why Colston may NOT be here in 2012 if Mickey can't work his cap-magic.

I'm 90% sure Brees would rather have Nicks over Colston, IF he were forced to choose.

It may come down to just that.

Colston is not that marketable. He has one skill, catching short passes (10-15 yds). Why would a team pay top dollar when you can get a receiver that can do that plus stretch the field and return kicks in a pinch. As a lot of you have said, he works great in Payton's offense but somewhere else...without a supporting cast I'm willing to bet his production would fall way off.

been saying this for years and people think im nuts. Brees makes colston open not the other way around. people like megatron or andre johnson get ope on there own. you never see colston beating one on one coverage. he appears to beat them cause he will make a play but in actuality brees just threw him open. i wish we had receivers that got seperation on their own. id rather we sign nicks and get someone like mike wallace who can get open by their self and would probably be cheaper and healthier. not that colston doesnt come back strong from injury but he has had alot of knee surgery in the last few years

20% of his catches were over 20 yards.

He averages about 1 yard less per catch than Henderson and Meachem and 2 yards more than Lance.

He averages 14.18 yds a catch over his career. 2010 and 2007 he averaged about 12 yds a catch.

Another thing, who is going to make perfect back shoulder passes every single time.

Plus who are we going to find that can catch the tough passes over the middle when he gets hit as soon as you catch it, colston is a beast and yeah brees does throw him open sometimes, but if colston left you would undoubtebly see the drop off in offensive production
