Plus this is football, man this is a rough sport. What goes better than a rock band and football, oh yeah Prince orThe Black Eyed Peas. But lets get real here, metallica wont be playing master of puppets or starting a slam dance event. They could put together a very good show. |

It's ok, my brother. We are all going to pretend we didn't read that 'cause we like you and your Zoey pics :) |

So, can you dig this? We SHARE the halftime gig with with Van Halen AND Huey Lewis. This way we give the 40 something rockers their Van Halen AND we give those looking for something a bit more tame some Huey Lewis. Only they aren't separate performances or anything like that. Oh NO Mr Hulka... So how 'bout this? I can see Dave and Huey doing a really excellent rendition of a News classic...like, say, "Working for a Living"...oh man they would be great together on a tune like that, but there are lots of those old News songs that would work...and then...Diamond Dave and Lewis can trade off parts to "Stay Frosty". Oh man it would be perfect! So, the song would have to be about twice as long as it is on the record, but we can swing it. Huey Lewis with HIS band and some antics from Dave cover the first part...the acoustic part...brilliant...and so we add some instrumentation there because we want it to last...long enough so that we almost lull the audience into getting comfortable...then... badda BING baby the lights go dark, then strobe, then Dave does one of his famous squeals and then bada BOOM Eddie and Alex and Wolfie dig right into the second half of the song...Dave and Lewis still sharing the stage and trading vocals...oh man the crowd is going effing nutso. It's American Rock N Roll baby...old school meets...well...old school...take THAT whipper snappers! Oh man it's brilliant. You are brilliant Hulka. I'm telling you it would effing work baby! I can't find the whole song on YouTube, but this is a preview that goes long enough to hear the transition... Oh baby this would be the best show ever in the history of Super Bowls. and can you just hear Lewis wailing away on his harmonica? Dudes...the people that rig up halftime need to give a brotha a ring. Me and Hulka could make 'em famous. LOL |
BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO with a little Subdudes on the side!

Who care just get the game back started

What 'de hell you got against a-ha man? They inspired people...LOL Edit: So I posted this girls video fully making fun of "it"...and maybe ever "her"...because I'm mean. In fact she has several videos, that are...interesting...but ONE in particular about Zombies. I HIGHLY recommend ya'll head on over to the music forum and check it out. :-) |
After Madonna messed up, no surprise there, scrape all entertainers from the SB halftime show and really make it a show. Show singers , dancers, actors from Broadway plays.
Put that up. Rent 42nd Street Wicked Anything fast. Fast dancing and singing scenes. |
Up With People are still around ...Aah.. those were the days :)
|
The Saints are pushing to perhaps do something original. They'd like to have Jazz musicians throughout history from New Orleans perform at this years halftime show. It'll be a great change and it'll showcase the cities prestige music scene.

I always felt like Kiss would be really good for a Super Bowl halftime show, and am kinda baffled that they've never done it on their own. They have the spectacle, the breathing fire, the costumes, smoke, all that fun stuff, and have just enough songs that everyone knows, to last the needed 15-20 minutes. I mean I'm not like a huge passionate KISS fan or something stupid like that, I just thought they'd be kinda good for it.

How about Louis Armstrong? |
Its not about the music, its about the show.
Thats an entirely different perspective from what music you prefer. Any heavy metal band just ain't gonna cut it. I hate Madonna's music, but that was the best halftime show I've ever seen at a Superbowl. |

Over some of the big screens.. A good highlight flim of some serious hits that happened over the year. Thats football! In your face smack! For once please, not this gay ass dance stepping moves. |

Metallica is a bad idea. |

1 They are a watered down mainstream band, they will not play anything from the days of when they came out. 2 They have many songs that are played over the radio, and could put a together a 15- to 20 mins of music that would be just like any other band. Mainstream. 3 They have played shows with a Symphony Orchestra. (Now I'm not suggesting this) but they can be very versatile, on how they play. Ok here me out. Remember back in 2006 when the saints came back into the dome for the first time. U2 and Green Day played along with Rebirth Brass Band and a bunch of other local talent. That was at least to me amazing. Mardi Gras Indians kicked it on the stage. you see where I'm going with this. So why can't this be done again? I think it could work, and if y'all disagree. Fine I can buy into it, if you tell me why it can not. You get Kermit Ruffins doing his thing with other NOLA talent. It would be almost a duplicate show, a fun show that could work. Hell throw in some more acts as well then split time with a different artist. Just don't say they would not work, cause they sure as hell can. |
I would love to have local act's but the local act's would have to appeal to everybody not just Local Louisiana folks, sorry to burst bubbles but a huge part of America don't even know what Zydeco or Cajun music is althought if it's incorporated into the main artist show it could come out nicely i guess..
If New Orleans is going to pull some local act's it has to be someone nationally known, we can't put Lil Wayne on stage for obvious reasons, Ledisi is great but she's not entertaining enough however she' would be awesome for the National Anthem though adding that jazzy swing to it. Britney Spears isn't from New Orleans but she's local and could probably throw a nice show but the NFL would be bracing themselves for an article of clothing to be removed. Dawn formally from P-Diddy's Danity cane is from New Orleans and is an AWESOME singer and can perform like any other R&B/Pop power artist.. This could help ignite her career and rep New Orleans at the sametime, kills a lot of birds with one stone. Her Album is scheduled to drop in a month or so, so if she can pull off some hits on that album i think she would make an excellent choice as a Local national name artist that make music that appeal to more than some gulf-south residents. New Orleans has a few Metal Bands that could go up like Down or Crowbar.. but um.. not sure if they have any track's they could actually play in a Superbowl without it being censored. |
One of the pitfalls of having some of the groups that you guys have been discussing is the fact that it might be too much work building all the ramps going to the stage instead of stairs...and then you have to make sure that your stock of Depends is adequate.
C'mon, man!! Why does it have to be a rock group or musical act...or whatever. I'd much rather listen to a good comedian...or even watch ballet...or "River Dancing." Don't get me wrong...I don't mind watching a good group perform, but I would prefer to watch them when they are in their prime...not 30 years later. I know, I know...I am an old fart, too...but that doesn't mean I have to live in the past. The only problem with today's music is that it is mostly rap...and I ain't even down wit dat!! |

Like I said above, The city of New Orleans and the Saints have no control on who performs at the superbowl. The can make suggestions to the NFL but it is the NFL that chooses the performers.

Crowbar would be awesome! Although with their low general tempo they probably would have time only for one song during the halftime show. |

Where I have to disagree with a lot of you here, is when you suggest something that is "cool," like Metallica. Bear in mind, 80% of the world is not "cool." Forget about cool. I dont listen to Madonna, but Danno is right. She did exactly what a SB Halftime gig calls for. A big production. This is not art. It is showbiz, and she's perfect for tv. Its not about rocking the "cool" people. Its about putting on a show for a billion people. I personally would like to hear Led Zeppelin. The rest of the world wouldnt. I am a DJ, and I specialize in entertaining mixed groups of people--- all ages, all types, together in the same room. Im not a club DJ, or a house DJ -- I'm mostly weddings & corporate events. The first thing I have to do is kick out anything that is too hardcore in any direction: (So Im not playing Worship Me, Kill Your Parents by DevilScrotum, or Man, My Sister's Hot - by Billy Bob Clampett, or Kill that Policeman by BabyDaddy G. feat T. Felon.) Once the crowd trusts me & understands the program, then sure, we can do something crazy later. And if somebody hires me for a private party, and everyone is into the same thing, you bet, I can go crackhouse, satan rage, redneck, 80s drug party, whatever they like. The good of the many outweighs the good of the one. There's always the buttplug that shows up, while the rest of the crowd is celebrating happily to pop music, who thinks the room wants to hear Pantera. I cant help this guy. All I can do is wait until he's 40, so he'll understand. Remember, they used to bring in Up With People and everyone still watched. Much of the world loves Louisiana, even if they dont understand it. Louisiana Legends, (Like Irma Thomas & Aaron Neville & and Harry C. jr) along with a Cajun & Zydeco cameo, backed by Southern U & Grambling Bands would be a rocking show, and a 100 million dollars worth of promotion. much love for all, mikey |

Van Halen.
Lots of good ideas and good bands in this thread. No slight to any of them, but Van Halen is squarely in the middle of the NFL demo. The timing is perfect. The new album is fantastic. You've got Eddie, the best guitarist of his generation, Alex, an underrated (unless you play music and know better) drummer. Oh, and he's Eddies brother...AND Eddie's kid on bass for kicks. And then, love him or hate him, you have probably the best front man in music who's name isn't Mick. We all have our favorites. I would LOVE to see Huey Lewis get the call, for example. I would really dig Metallica. KISS would be fun no doubt. Hell, how about ZZ TOP? Just like any of you, I can come up with 30 bands / artists that would work, that would put on a great show, and that deserve being able to place "Super Bowl" halftime on their resume. But as a Van Halen fan I admit, I can't see anything else or anyone else as more appropriate for the next Super Bowl. |
If you are from The New Orleans Area you know:

Is that dude the Lead singer from Loverboy's brother? First cousin maybe? LOL

I have a feeling it will be Katy Perry headlining and a cross-section of cameo performers. And at least she does look a bit like Zooey.
