Broncos | O'Neal Remains on Trading Block - from www.KFFL.com
Wed, 31 Mar 2004 03:41:35 -0800 Lynn DeBruin, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports Denver Broncos CB/WR Deltha O'Neal's agent, Carl Poston, said about 12 to 14 teams have expressed an interest in O'Neal. Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan said teams have expressed an interest, too, but wouldn't release which teams are talking to the team about him. Shanahan added when the team receives fair compensation for him, they'll have a possible trade in place. However, he added if proper compensation isn't there the team will simply keep him. The Broncos want to convert him to receiver, where Shanahan feels he could be a solid option. "I think Deltha could be a Pro Bowl wide receiver," Shanahan said. |

He should be very familiar with all of the possible ways a cornerback can be burned. Please, for all that\'s good and holy, do not sign O\'Neal. Hell, we could\'ve made Alex Molden a wideout... a bust by any other position is still a bust. |

how can u call him a bust, he led the league in INTs a few years back and the only reason the broncos want to convert him to wr is b/c he and shannahan dont get along which is also the reason he is on the trade block

He has not turned into the shutdown corner Denver wanted him to be but i wouldnt call him a bust. He has flashed his potential (He made the pro bowl one year) but for one reason or another hasnt been consistent in Denvers defense. I wouldnt give up much for him but if we parted with a 3rd rounder I wouldnt be upset. There is no way the Saints will find a corner in round 3 with his abililty.

Yes. He had a terrific season a few years back, but when a team that is starved for help in their defensive backfield is willing to convert a young player from a need position to one that is not, that tells me that something is lacking.
You claim that the reason for the switch is a personality conflict? Then why wouldn\'t Shann just trade O\'Neal rather than decrease his value by a) benching him and lowering his productivity last year and b) changing his position and therefore casting doubt on O\'Neal\'s abilities? |

to piss him off...
no seriously, i think that shann. knows that oneal is a good/descent football player and wasnt really looking to get rid of a solid football player, my best guess is that oneal didnt play like shann. wanted him to on the defensive side of the ball so he tried to play him at another position |

I understand your point but he switched O\'Neal from a position where he was struggling to a position of greater need. Lelie was banged up all year, as was McCaffery and i believe even Rod Smith missed some time so it wasnt as though their WR\'s were healthy and productive. Theie receivers were aweful last year and Shann was probably desperate for help and tried to find a way to get O\'Neal on the field. I think Chris Cole got plenty of playing time and maybe even started a few games....sounds like they needed help there too.

Yeah, he was trying to get O\'Neal on the field, because he is a tremendous athlete. He had one good season, and since that time, he has been torched, over and over and over again. He\'s digressing, which cannot be good for his psyche. He doesn\'t want to play WR (I don\'t understand this, but hey, I\'m not him). Go talk to the fans from the Broncos\' board- they\'re so ready for him to be gone. Shanahan said he will not play CB for the Broncos again, ever.
Maybe a change of scenery would help him mentally. But do you want to take that chance? |
The waiting drove me mad....
I don't want to hear from those that know... Everything has changed, absolutely nothing's changed Eddie is a....draftnik? |

You take that kind of chance with everyone you draft...At least he has proven he do it in the NFL... and yes he has struggled, i cant deny that. How many times have you seen a guy leave a team and turn his career around? Used to happen to the Saints all the time.
