Mickey Loomis is still focused on free agency
New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis is still focused on free agency and the ongoing negotiations with quarterback Drew Brees, a team source confirmed. Although Loomis and Coach Sean Payton had to fly to New York on Thursday to meet with NFL officials about their bounty investigation, it was business as usual at Saints camp on Friday.
"Mickey has not missed a beat on his GM duties and actually spent the majority of Friday strictly on the Brees deal," the source said. "The bounty stuff was not out of nowhere. We knew about this and have cooperated and been involved in helping the league for years. We understand the severity and ramifications, but (Owner Tom Benson) and Mickey are on the same page and moving forward." Loomis, of course, isn't alone in the Saints' front office. Director of football administration Khai Harley is also heavily involved in many of the Saints' ongoing contract talks and salary cap management. The Saints have 16 players scheduled to become unrestricted free agents at the start of the new league year March 13 and three others scheduled to become restricted free agents. Loomis sure has a lot of work ahead of him. No one here knows what all has happened but if he ignored the team owner's wishes then the guy could really be in trouble. He and Payton have worked well together. I hope that he stays in New Orleans.

Would the league lessen punishment if Saints fired Loomis? The Saints don't have the luxury of firing Williams since he's always gone. Loomis may have to fall on the sword for this one.
