1a. Jonathan Vilma 1b. Derrick Strait (trading both seconds for about the 24th pick) This would be absolutely ideal. Two guys who would start on opening day. They address both weaknesses very very well. They'd be stars for a long time in this league. But would Denver bite? Our 3rd round pick would then be who? Another CB?, WR?, LB? FB? DT? I'd nix the DT until Pease hashes out what he has and who he wants to keep. I think a good FB can be had 5th round or later. I think we'd be OK with a trio from Vilma, Grant, Hodge, Rodgers, Ruff and Allen. I think the biggest need would then a CB to develop. |

I normally agree with you Danno, but can\'t on this one. i dont think Strait is a 1st round quality player. I think we would benefit more with the 2 2nd rounders. Vilma is the right pick, but giving up that much for Strait isnt. We can take Vasher and/or Thomas, LeSeuer, Smith, or anyone, just not Strait for 2 2nd\'s

I agree with saintsfan, I think giving our 2 2nds is a little too steep just to draft Strait.

I just love Vilma, but I\'m afraid all the CB\'s that could help us in 2004 will be gone by 2A. But all this is speculative based on us not signing a June 1 cut, or a marked-down Dale Carter though. But its possible to still get some great CB\'s in the 2nd. Only 8 CB\'s were drafted thru 3 rounds last year, so we can still probably get a couple top 10 CB\'s with 2A and 2B. I\'m getting to anxious....must be patient...keep that poker face... |

breathe....breathe....breathe...better now? I know how you feel, man. feels like February, not much happening, waiting anxiously for free agency, in this case the draft. I when we all sit down and imagine the possibilities, it\'s hard not to get pumped up.

I\'d like to see us trade up to 14 or 15(via Horn + 18, or one of our seconds + 18, and then trade Horn for picks) and select Reggie Williams if he is still available.
Then we can get best available LB and CB in second round. Why? Well, this is a great reciever draft, and if a talent like Reggie Williams goes as far down as 16- I don\'t see him slipping past the 49ers- , we need to take advantage. Additionally, there is alot of value in th 2nd and 3rd round for CB and LB. However, many of the first round ILBs or CBs either aren\'t worth a mid-first round selection or will go high in the draft(1-12). |

Trading up is the wrong thing to do this draft. Trading down and picking up a 2 or 3 rounder is the BEST thing we can do... Talent is there and deep this draft. Strait is good and will be there in the second baring any rush on a given position.

good point Euphoria, with the defense being so deep in this draft, trading down is the best thing, unless your a team seeking a franchise offensive player. i think there will be at least 4 quality corners in the 2nd when we come up, and maybe some more when we select againt later that round. ALSO, Horn needs to stay around. They fired his coach and i would take that as a slap in the face as well. Despite his one or 2 outburst, the kid as balls, and he showed that against Carolina(BlackandBlue good point), so 3 things.
1. Keep Horn 2. Get Vilma 3. Go CB both 2nd\'s(Vasher and Leseuer) |
is this all really happening????

I almost agree with Saintsfan1313; except don\'t dismiss what exactly we could get for Horn. He is getting along in age and I believe getting a #1 would be worth it taking a look at. Then packaging one of our #1s and a number 2 to move into the top ten, select Hall and with the second #1 take Vilma/D.J.Williams/best available WR. In the second round I\'m a big fan of CB Keith Smith/McNeese St.; fast, good size and might slip coming from a small school.
