Marcus Trufant

Released by the Seahawks, what do you think of him? Worth looking at?

Havenīt followed him at all in recent years to be honest..

papz 03-08-2012 07:08 AM

31 and fell out of favor for the talented youngsters. If the price is right, I wouldn't mind having him in the nickel for next year if Porter is gone.

Jankman8 03-08-2012 07:13 AM

How much do you think he is gonna ask for?

It's hard to say, he made $3M last season with SEA, but that was a result of a restructuring he agreed to earlier, which would have seen him make somewhere around $7M next season if he hadn't been released.

Barber, Carr, Finnegan, Porter, Rogers, etc. will set the market for CBs this FA period, so he might be had for fairly cheap or his price might get inflated - hard to say at this point in time.

I give him a 1 year deal worth 1.5-2 million w/o regretting it.

SmashMouth 03-08-2012 10:04 AM

He must have lost a step or two.... maybe as part of the rotation, but not as a starter.

Danno 03-08-2012 10:36 AM

We have more important positions to upgrade 1st, and not a whole lot of money to do it with.

Rugby Saint II 03-08-2012 10:59 AM

We need to get younger and cheaper thanks to The cap.

FinSaint 03-08-2012 11:17 AM

Yeah, signing Trufant would be like repeating the same mistake they made last off-season in signing Fabian Washington.

The only thing is Washington has never been good... always had great measurables which make him interesting.

Very true, but we do have some depth issues at corner. Definitely not a top our priority list, but we should still keep an open eye to other positions of need too.

I thought that Washington did have some productive years with the Raiders earlier on, but you're right, he was never that good, which begs the question: why were the Saints interested in him?

Isn't Trufant sorta "injury prone"?

Yeah, among other things he suffers from chronic back pains.

FinSaint 03-08-2012 11:52 AM

On another note, talking about players the Seahawks's have released - has there been any news of Lofa Tatupu since he visited the Saints?

Measureables, depth, and probably cheap. We already had Greer, Porter, and Robinson in front of him... at best he was going to be our dime in front of Patrick.

I don’t like it. Spags likes physical corners and to me he’s a little under sized. I say pass.

But we also have to consider what type of corners best fit Flajole's schemes, but in general if they want to avoid what they went through with the Rams last season, they'll probably want to have a lot of depth in the secondary.

jokeray 03-08-2012 12:53 PM

He only played in 4 games last year I think, back injury.

For every Darren Sproles and Jimmy Graham we take a chance on, there is a Fabian Washington or Shaun Rogers.

...and Jason David. :-)

No Patrick will fill the nickle position and we can't afford it anyway..
