good news!

This is Epic.

Hopefully setting an example for Nicks and freeing up space for Brees.

Starting to become cautiously optimistic...

Jahri Evans restructures, saves Saints $2 million | ProFootballTalk

The Saints have freed up a little bit of much-needed salary cap space.

Guard Jahri Evans, who signed a seven-year, $56.7 million contract in 2010 that made him the highest-paid guard in the league at the time, has restructured his deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The restructuring saves the Saints $2 million in salary cap space.

New Orleans is still not in great cap shape, especially considering how much money they’re going to need to free up to sign free agent quarterback Drew Brees to a new deal.

And, of course, they’ve got some bounty-related problems to deal with at the moment as well.

papz 03-09-2012 01:11 PM

Loomis doing work.

jcp026 03-09-2012 01:11 PM

Great news.

SmashMouth 03-09-2012 01:15 PM

... encouraging ...

SapperSaint 03-09-2012 01:19 PM

Papz nailed it....

Loomis is busting his beehind right now.

Keep the good news a'coming!

ScottF 03-09-2012 01:21 PM

I think we will see 3-4 signings over the weekend. I'll bet the Evans deal directly relates to Nicks signing

Danno 03-09-2012 01:29 PM

Carl, stay home my friend. We want you and we need you.

dizzle88 03-09-2012 01:32 PM

Nice show of class there jahri, your the best at your position, thanks for being a team first guy

RaginCajun83 03-09-2012 01:32 PM

Finally some good news around here, hope this helps out getting Nicks resigned

BGWhoDat 03-09-2012 01:40 PM

Carl Nicks should take note.

alexonfyre 03-09-2012 02:12 PM

Both of them are all-time greats individually, but I think they realize that they aren't going to ever be better than when they are playing together.

Supertek 03-09-2012 03:09 PM

Think it shows that the players want to stay together and keep a good thing going. They are showing their support for Brees.

LivnaLieTimay 03-09-2012 03:20 PM

This is great news but lets not make it seem like Jahri is taking a pay cut. This restructuring just means he's making more guaranteed money, like what Eli just did. Players like Jahri LOVE when a teams comes to them to restructure.

I do like how we are getting creative with the cap to free up space for some of our other free agents. Lets now use this space and get some guys signed!

FinSaint 03-09-2012 03:58 PM

Very encouraging seeing Evans accept a restructure, even thought it didn't free up a whole lot of cap, but every little counts in this situation.

Very true, but the fact remains we're clearing cap room. Obviously we need a carrot to convince players to restructure. I'm sure Loomis isn't giving away the farm to lower this year's cap.

I'm sure there are some restructures where players take a paycut, but the alternative may be their release and very few options of increasing their pay.

But you are correct, I'm sure Jahri got some financial incentives to restructure.

Pete 03-09-2012 04:15 PM

Now What Nicks!

SapperSaint 03-09-2012 04:17 PM

I wonder if Will was given a paycut?

Pete 03-09-2012 04:22 PM

Let it be known that Mickey is hard @ work!Another thing to mention is that we have some solid character guys who are showing their true colors!(in a good way)

TEAM PLAYERS is what Payton wanted correct....
This makes Pete happy to some degree

Now if we could only........

No, his overall numbers remained the same. It was just restructured with less counting towards this year's cap.

And the last year is no longer optional like it was under the former contract.

xan 03-09-2012 05:05 PM

This is not money for Brees. This is money for a DEFENSE.

get on the stick, Mickey. Get us a pass rusher and 3 good LB's!!

So basically we extended his contract, shifted a portion of his future salary to guaranteed money, and lowered the cap.

win-win-win

Y'all do know that restructuring does not mean less money, right? It means shifting some to bonus and delaying some in return for more guaranteed dollars. Nobody voluntarily restructures their contract without some sort of financial gain in return.

They know that for sure.

But you know, it is nice to hear some positive news once in a while.

jeanpierre 03-12-2012 12:30 PM

I'm starting to think that this Bountygate may have woken your boy Loomis up....

Rugby Saint II 03-12-2012 12:51 PM

A little here and a little there starts to add up real soon. Maybe we can sign Drew then get him to restructure!!
