I agree with Rugby. I think SP has intentionally called those running plays on Daniel's turns on the wheel of the Ferrari a.k.a. the Saints' offense - and the intention hasn't been to protect a QB who can't throw.
Going back to Daniel's college career, I'd think he could be a good pocket passer. Also, having been within the Saints'/SP's system for a couple of years now, and having been able to observe what Brees does on and off the field in order to be the player he is - I'd much rather see him under center than f.e. Quinn. |
A few people at my work think he may can get the job done. But I do not believe he can get it done. Was a real good college QB but the NFL is a different animal. Agree also that the defense is so bad that he would not be able to keep up like Brees plain and simply he would be out of his league. Think with some experience he could be a good managable QB but would need a strong defense to keep games within his reach.

I believe Daniels can win us double digit games. He has never been given a chance to show what he's got with the starters. Even in preseason it's been with backups. The only game he came in this past year was against the Colts and all Payton was going to do is run with the lead we had. He had a much better college career than Matt Flynn yet everyone thinks Flynn would be better. Flynn has played a total of 2 games with the leagues best receiving corp and has done well but let's see what he does with a team with less talent. I highly doubt we will have to see what Chase can do this year but if we did I would be confident he could lead us.

The Saints have been a pass-happy offense with Brees behind center, and with good reason, but I wonder if they have to be that way.
With another QB, and having RB's like PT, Sproles, and Ivory...we could become a ball-control offense easily, IMO. It really depends on which way SP wants to roll. I think most NFL QB's can succeed in that scenario provided they hang on to the guys up front who are opening holes and making the pro-bowl. |

YES! Chase Daniels can win 10 games.
Much easier if the defense awakes out of sleep. I'm convinced that Sean Payton can position Chase to win ball games, ...and effectively play games to his strengths and avoid his weaknesses, ...and I don't think Daniels would shoot himself in the foot (a lot). Let him dink-and-dunk alot to open up things down field. He'd be OK. Decent running attack, Graham and Moore in the middle, one-on-one on the outsides, dumping to Thomas and Sproles on check-downs, oh yea, he'd be OK. |
He has sat behind Drew in a system that is made for QB's of his stature. He has a quick release and I noticed in pre-season that he has learned to step up in the pocket a little more. He is also a little more mobile than Drew. I think with the cast of players on this team he could win 10 plus, but we won't need him to. Drew will be back soon with a new contract...keep the faith..

I think he could hammer out 10. hes got a swagger to him. or he'll be shaggin golf balls the next season. payton has him coming along to avoid the end of the world/something happens to brees senerio

SP and Drew are taking Chase and molding him to be exactly the QB that he needs to be. If he had gone to the Browns or somewhere, he probably would have fizzled like Brady Quinn or Jason Campbell or any number of other guys. By spending this much time with him, they are hoping that he will become experienced and confident by proxy.
What I do know is that Chase keeps Drew competitive in practice, and they like him because of that. If he is good enough to keep Drew honest, then I have no doubt that he could make a fine starter. |
While in college, Chase Daniel was a nightmare for my Sooners... He is one of the best kept secrets holding a clip board imho. Glad he was extended for a year, and I'm sure after the debacle with Brees is over, Chase will get a better extension next year.

He's had a pretty good apprenticeship under Brees' tutelage ... not unlike Steve Young under Montana.

Stop it. Stop right now.

Yes. The Saints would rely more on the running game. They have the backs to do it up right. That would help the defense which is the weak link on the team but who could blossom under Spags. Not forgetting legit weapons in the passing game in Graham and Colston who are matchup nightmares. Plus, there's the wild card of Daniel making plays with his legs. It absolutely could happen.

One player doesn't win 10 games.

Not enough information to answer the question. We've never seen him play a meaningful game with a weak of preparation.
