I didn't think much of will smith but with him restructuring made me respect him more as he's a veteran with not long left, Happy that Jahri wants to win but Brees has got to recognize he is basically killing the team (and raising my f'ing blood pressure) by each day that this continues |

$18,000,000 a year!!!!!!!!!!!!
$30,000,000 signing bonus!!!!!!!! How much money does he need? Most people could not even visualise what $18,000,000 dollars would look like. I know, I'm from England, so I don't know as much as you guys as to how the payment system works for US athletes and what is deemed a reasonable amount but that seems like plenty of money to me, no matter what sport you are playing! |

If you offered Brees this type of restructuring, he would take it. These are not nice guys taking pay cuts for the sake of the team, this is just Evans and Smith (and also Eli) getting more of their money UP FRONT as bonuses, guarantees etc., which is exactly what the sticking point was with the earlier "rejected" Brees deal...not enough guarantees in the first 3 seasons! These deals and the Brees contract are apples and oranges and you can't compare them. If you do that, you have to ask the question, why didn't the Saints front office offer Brees more of their offer up front, in the first three years, he might have taken it then instead of turning it down...if they had offered that, and Brees turned it down, THAT would be a valid comparison...apples and oranges here.

I get what everyone is saying and I still respect Brees, he is, in my opinion one of the best, if not the best QB in the NFL at this present time! I really hope it works out and he stays as the Saints QB for lots more seasons to come!
The only thing that rattles me a little is that he would have been the highest paid player in the NFL but, for whatever the reason maybe, that was still not enough! I just don't get it! Oh well, as I have always said, there is never a dull moment when you are a Saints fan! |

Also, with the restructuring of his contract, Smith's last year was inked in compared to it being optional under the former contract. Of course, there's no guarantees that he'll ever see that last year in a Saints' uniform.
