Saints make a second Gold rush
STAFF, WIRE REPORT
The New Orleans Saints again played host to unrestricted free agent WLB Ian Gold, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis confirmed on Wednesday. He'd previously visited with New Orleans on March 9. The 25-year-old Gold moved in as a starter at Denver last season and quickly emerged as one of the team's top defensive players, totaling 166 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks. But Gold, chosen in the second round of the 2000 draft by Denver, only had 27 tackles and two sacks in an injury-shortened 2003. Gold suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in October, while covering a punt in the first quarter of Denver's 17-14 win over Pittsburgh. Before the injury, Gold was ranked third on the team in tackles. "You could just see the grimace on his face and you could hear him making sounds and it didn't sound good," fellow linebacker Al Wilson told The Rocky Mountain News. "We knew it was going to be tough." For the rest of this article, and more interesting saints info, click here: http://www.thenewsstar.com/saints/ht...179D1D93.shtml |
