NFL strips Dal and Wash of cap space!
League strips Cowboys, Redskins of millions in cap space | ProFootballTalk
Well, it wasn’t just a rumor. We explained an hour ago that there has been talk of the NFL taking action against teams that deliberately dumped salaries into the uncapped year of 2010. The two primary violators were the Cowboys and Redskins, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Per Schefter, the league will punish the teams by removing millions in cap dollars? How many millions? Schefter reports that the Cowboys will lose more than $10 million — and that the Redskins will lose $36 million. (And now we know why the Redskins got the Griffin deal done last week; the Rams likely would have wanted even more for the second overall pick now.) The teams can divide the cap losses between 2012 and 2013 in any portion they want. As of Sunday, the Redskins more than $30 million in cap space in 2012. The Cowboys had less than $5 million. The money will be reallocated to the other teams, with every franchise except the Saints and Raiders picking up $1.6 million in extra cap space. (The Saints and Raiders presumably don’t get the extra money as their own punishment for engaging in similar tactics in 2010.) |

Cheating the cap? Both those teams should be banned to the CFL. Coaches suspended...no, fired....no suspended AND fired...and after they've been good a suspended and fired, THEN they should be banned. In fact they have no business on this planet.
Cheating the cap is a BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG deal and challenges the integrity of the game. the NFL must be HARSH HARSH HARSH with these people. /sarcasm |

Could be great news for us,can't see Dallas being able to offer Nicks the big bucks now.
Hopefully he might decide that playing on a championship calibre team is more important than a extra few dollars playing on a mid level team with plenty of cap space. |

Cheating the cap? I didn't know it could be done. I thought they could borrow against next years cap. Keeping up with players and personnel alone is dizzying. I'll just take there word for it.

NFL warned teams
Many of you (specifically, Cowboys and Redskins fans) are wondering how and why the NFL would strip millions in cap money for 2012 and/or 2013 from teams that simply took full advantage of the uncapped year. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the teams were told “at least six times” during ownership-level meetings that there would be “serious consequences” for any team that used the uncapped year as an occasion to dump salaries. The Cowboys and Redskins engaged in “systematic dumping” of salaries into the uncapped year, despite the warnings. As to the Saints and Raiders, who won’t lose cap space but likewise won’t get the $1.6 million per team that will be redistributed based on the cap space taken from the Redskins and Cowboys, it’s our understanding that the violations were far less severe. For the Raiders, the dumping of salary in 2010 arose specifically from the dumping of JaMarcus Russell from the roster. |

The NFL warned teams of a rule that wasn't in place.
Now they're punishing teams for taking advantage over a rule that wasn't in place. The NFL approved the contract restructures. For breaking a rule that wasn't in place? Note: The Raiders got punished for getting rid of JaMarcus Russell.... Much like how they care about player safety oh so much, then want an 18 game schedule. The NFL just wants money. That's all this is. I lose respect for Goodell daily. |
