Dick King strikes again!

1. I think I have no idea what it means when New Orleans quarterback and union executive board member Drew Brees, in a statement about the Saints' bounty program the NFL says took place, says: "I did not participate in any bounty program, nor did I have any knowledge relating to its real existence.''

First of all, no offensive player is alleged by the NFL to have taken part in the bounty thing. Secondly: What is the "real'' existence of something? Does that mean you knew something about it vaguely, or have some knowledge but not full knowledge of the inner workings of the program, or that you knew nothing of it at all?

I will say what I believe league investigators are thinking, regardless of the definition of "real'' here: that every player on that Super Bowl team, and the coach and general manager, knew something of what was going on in the defensive team meetings on Saturday nights.

2. I think the news that the NFL is on the verge of making a decision in the Saints case is a sign that Roger Goodell was fairly sure what he wanted to do when he announced the findings of the league's investigation 10 days ago. It's likely he's conferred with some owners on the sanctions, and with NFLPA czar De Smith, and just wanted to have some time to mull over what will surely be the biggest disciplinary case of his six years in office. Actually, it's likely to be the biggest disciplinary case he'll ever adjudicate.

Dick King = King of D**ks

Danno 03-12-2012 09:23 PM

The man's name is Peter King, not Dick King.

WhoDat!656 03-12-2012 09:31 PM

He is an a$$hole when he writes crap like that!

W. Kovacs 03-12-2012 09:31 PM

Yeah, he's kind of condescending in the article, but he's not necessarily wrong about anything in this one.

The shot (from a previous article) about how any Saints players who feel they should/could be part of the injury settlements should be laughed at was downright insulting.

That's not enough to get me to stop reading MMQB, though...probably one of the most insightful and informative regular articles on the NFL to regularly see "print."

WhoDat!656 03-12-2012 09:35 PM

I have a feeling that he will complain no matter what the league does.

Dick is a tool of the NFL!

Nothing more, often much less.......

jeanpierre 03-12-2012 10:29 PM

You think if this were one of the golden franchises of the NFL (i.e. Giants, Jets, Steelers, Packers) we'd see the same vigor in his prosecution of the Saints?

That's why the man is a hypocrite and, in the grand scheme of things, totally useless to the real world...

QBREES9 03-12-2012 11:01 PM

Again don't really care what he thinks about the Saints.

Marlboro Man 03-12-2012 11:59 PM

While reading Drew's statement, my BS meter went nuts. Just sayin.

Yes I do think that. This whole thread is stupid.

SapperSaint 03-13-2012 07:38 AM

Hey Pete!

Do you know what Drew and most of the Saints players have that you only get to look at and will never have?????

A SUPERBOWL RING

I know it gives you heartburn to know that a team you dispise is NOW a SuperBowl contender EACH and EVERY YEAR! For me as a fan; I could care less What YOU THINK about MY TEAM!

Suck it,
Sapper

Peter/Dick King = Captain Obvious

Euphoria 03-13-2012 08:36 AM

Yes I hinted about this in another thread with some of the stories its hard I would think for him not to know that something was going on...

He may not have taken part in anything but he had to have known something was going on.

The wording is a bit odd.

Maybe he knew, maybe he didn't. The thing is, from everything I ever knew about the NFL right up to what I know while I'm typing this message is that these things are common. A player getting drafted out of college is more likely to land on a team that does this sort of thing than one that doesn't.

So it's common. Among the players it's business as usual. So if Williams notched it up among these 'so-numbered' 22-27 players - if THEY had something unique going on outside of the common practice, then yeah, I can completely believe that Drew could have been unaware of it.

It's kind of hard not to see $15,000 sitting on a table in the locker room.
Seriously though something that widespread would be hard to keep behind closed doors..
