Those Tricky Broncos
They leapfrogged us!
ESPN just reported this: The Bronco's gave up Deltha O'neil, their first round and more for the Bengals first rounder at #17. Man, that would've been primo for the Saints. I'm looking all over the place trying to find a link... |
Those Tricky Broncos
Add a RB to the list of players taken in front of us.
One less team to worry about needing a CB/LB...I think. TEAM NEEDS AFC West Denver Broncos: 1) Running Back - Clinton Portis is gone, but the Broncos offensive line is so good that the rookie who is eventually drafted will gain 1,200 yards. 2) Wide Receiver - Ed McCaffrey might retire and Rod Smith is getting old. 3) Defensive Tackle - This is Denver\'s biggest problem area. A playmaker is needed now. 4) Free Safety - A cover safety is needed to offset Kenoy Kennedy\'s hard-hitting style. 5) Defensive End - A pass rush is sorely needed. [Edited on 9/4/2004 by Danno] |

Maybe receiver?
Have you heard about this? It was on the ticker tape at the bottom of ESPN a little bit ago. |

Bengals trade for Pro Bowl corner Deltha O\'Neal 4-9-04, 11:40 a.m. BY GEOFF HOBSON In one fell swoop Friday, the Bengals got a Pro Bowl cornerback and picked up a fourth-rounder that gives them six players in the first 117 selections of the April 24-25 NFL Draft. Late Thursday night, Cincinnati completed a trade with Denver in which they swapped first-round picks with the Broncos giving the Bengals cornerback Deltha O’Neal and a fourth-rounder to move up from No. 24 to No. 17 in the first round. Cincinnati, which picks 114th in the fourth round, now goes again 15 minutes later with Denver’s 117th pick. The Bengals did indeed end up getting a first-round cornerback out of this draft, but it turns out to be O’Neal, 27, the 15th pick in the 2000 draft who went to the Pro Bowl following the 2001 season. Cincinnati had just 52 NFL starts at cornerback before the trade, but O’Neal brings them 36 more. ...More... http://www.bengals.com/press/news.asp?news_id=2173#cont |

Damn. That would have been a great move for us to make.

I\'m thinking that the Bronco\'s will go for either a receiver or line backer (if they lose Ian Gold) maybe even a DT.
I\'ve been reading the posts on the Broncos website. I guess the Broncs have 2 picks in the second so alot of the posters there think that more trades are to come. |
Those Tricky Broncos
Denver biggest needs are:
1. Defensive Tackle chances are they will sign a free agent after june cuz Wilfork & harris will likely be off the board 2. CORNERBACK they are in great position to pick one of the top three( Hall, Robinson, & then Gamble) 3. Wide Receiver Aging receivers Smith & McCaffery need a replacement (Reggie Williams or Lee Evans) Leslie showed great potential but remain inconsistent 4. Running Back chances are the Broncos will start Quentin Griffin cuz he prove to be more than what they expected but still they will like to have a security blanket if he have the sophomore blues WITH THE BRONCOS PICKING \"DUNTA ROBINSON\" I HOPE THE SAINTS PICK VILMA INSTEAD OF GAMBLE |
Those Tricky Broncos
I don\'t think they\'re going with a RB. I think they want either Starks(DT) or a LB. There is the small possibility that they are looking at Shawn Andrews, according to nfl.com.
|
Those Tricky Broncos
My guess would be that they are movign up to pick up Steven Jackson, as the Cowboys and Pats both pick right before them.
|
Those Tricky Broncos
Quentin Griffin
Garrison Hearst Mike Anderson Ruben Droughns Every running back they start has a 1000 yard season. You might be right about Jackson, but it wouldn\'t make much sense to me because they have other needs where there will be good players at 17. |
Those Tricky Broncos
I know they have other needs, I just haven\'t been able to figure out who else they have been tryin to get ahead of...
At first I thought maybe they were trying to secure Ben Troupe (as Sharpe will retire this year or next) but not one team between 24 and 17 had any TE need other than the broncos. So if not Steven Jackson, who? Randy Starks would of been there at 24. Even at 17, theres no guarentee that Reggie Williams or Vince Wilfork will fall.... So no, maybe RB may not be their biggest need, but the Broncos wanting Jackson is the best explanation as for why they traded up. |
Those Tricky Broncos
Maybe they were trying to get ahead of us. WR, LB, DT... that sounds a whole lot like our needs except for CB.

Starks has now risen from 23 to 17 in my mock. Denver\'s team needs (in my opinion): 1. DT 2. WR 3. OLB |
Those Tricky Broncos
Denver has probably targeted 4 or 5 players they want and know they will ALL be gone at 24, but 1 or 2 would still be there at 17.
RB-Jackson DT-Starks QB-Rivers DE-Will Smith WR-R. Williams I doubt its a CB. Two high dollar CB\'s on that D doesn\'t make sense, since their D-line needs the most help. LB maybe, but there are some good ones that would have been there at 24 like Lehman, Dansby. |

Yeah, I think Champ Bailey qualifies.

Ahmad Galloway Cecil Sapp Santonio Beard Lots of people have Shawn Andrews slipping to Miami. Denver might want a lineman, defense or offense. |

The Saints don\'t need a running back and defensive end isn\'t a need either so I hope that this article is right on. http://vikings.theinsiders.com/2/250631.html You have to give the Broncos credit. If they want a running back, they successfully moved ahead of the two teams that are targeting the top RBs available. If they want someone like Will Smith, they have forced the hand of the Cowboys and Patriots with the mere threat of moving ahead of them, burn a pick on a RB and give Smith a better chance to fall to them at No. 17. What Mike Shanahan and the Broncos draft posse have done is turn up the heat on the how the 2004 draft will shake out. It’s brilliant and didn’t cost them much. The sad thing is that there is a high probability that the Vikes could have moved up two spots simply by packaging Denard Walker and the No. 19 pick to move up. Now, the Broncos hold the cards and the Cowboys or Patriots either have to move ahead of them to get a running back or play the waiting game. Either way, the Vikes are now out of the equation. |

I think he was saying that it wouldn\'t have made sense for the Broncos to keep Oneal AND Bailey when they have pressing issues elsewhere. That\'s too much money for corners, given their needs. At least, that\'s how I took the post.
|
Those Tricky Broncos
I think Danno was saying the Broncos won\'t draft a CB (who would then become the second high dollar CB).

Thank you, No_cloning & Whodat
My honest mistake for misinterpeting. I still think is a chance Hall & Robinson will be taken before 18th. In the case of this happenning i hoping loomis draft Vilma or trade down low enough to draft Ahmad Carroll |
Those Tricky Broncos
[quoteI assume they could drafted Starks with the 24th pick, chances now he will slip into the 2nd rd. [/quote:5bd15464f6]
Don\'t count on it. DTs aren\'t easy to come by, and he is compared to Chris Jenkins. He\'ll go in the first round. |
Those Tricky Broncos
he is compared to Chris Jenkins. He\'ll go in the first round. [/quote:c4c455df3c]I believe he have great potential to be a great DT and possibly go in the 1st or high second. In my opinoin he is not in comparison of Chris Jenkin more like Corey Simon. The only comparison to Chris Jenkin is in size. |

In fact, right now, I\'m going to compare him to my couch. Starks has a better first step and is a more penetrating player. Starks definitely wraps up better than my couch. On the other hand, my couch plays with a lower center of gravity and is very hard to move from the point of attack. My couch may be best suited to play NT at the next level. Starks definitely has more upside. So there. Now Starks has been compared to Kris Jenkins, Corey Simon, and my couch. Now if I could quit being a smart alec for a second, I guess I\'d have to say that you very well could be right about Starks being gone before pick 24. Big guys seem to usually get picked higher than you\'d think on draft day. |
Those Tricky Broncos
Maybe it doesn\'t really mean anything to compare players of past and present, but it is still something the \"experts\" do. My point was just that Kris (thanks for the spelling correction) Jenkins won\'t slip past the first round.
Why don\'t you email Mel Kyper or Mike D and tell him your clever naugahyde couch story. ;) |
Those Tricky Broncos
If I emailed Kiper and told him about my couch, Kiper would have my couch as a first day prospect.
|
Those Tricky Broncos
Mel\'s comments on Naugahyde Couch
\"Couch has a solid frame and a wide body that can really stuff the middle of the line. He can play in a 3-cushion or 4-cushion front. Plus his naugahyde cover makes him really tough against stains. Much better prospect than Tim Couch was a few years ago.\" |
