NICKS SIGNS WITH BUCS
1 Attachment(s)
Adam Schefter is reporting that Nicks signed a 5 year $47.5 million deal including $31 million guaranteed.
Let me re-phrase that. They have reached an agreement not signed yet. |
How much did he demand off us? Wheres that Grubbs guy, get him to sign with us

That's a lot of guaranteed money!
|
Yeah. I'd like to know how that compares to what we offered.
|
Oh well, obviously out of the Saints price range, time for plan "B".
|
Congratulations to Nicks and, I guess, the Bucs. This makes signing Grubbs almost a must.
|
Staying in the NFC South? What a DB:( Guess he figures he has a SB ring, why get another?!
|
I heard he wanted 50+ but the 31 guarantee probably sold him.
I just recently realized that most of that back-end money isn't real money. That 31 guaranteed is BIG cheese. Now he can buy a bigger TV to watch our playoff run. I wish him the greatest levels of success except for two weeks out of the year. |
9.5 / year... Wow.
We can get Grubbs for probably 6 or 7. |
Good god that's a lot of money, now you're the enemy
Hope you enjoy loosing Carl |
This is his last go-round.
He will NEVER see this kind of money again. EVER! Don't blame him at all. Doesn't matter if he brings the play book with him when we execute. Good luck BIG NiCK! And good luck trying to ProBowl again too. |
But on a serious note, I wonder if Drew would have signed before they tagged him, could the Saints had been able to franchise Nicks and keep him around or would that had cost them Colston which if that was the case, I'm ok with how it went down since Drew's favorite target got resigned
|
So. Do we place a bounty on him?
|
Well he's dead to me now
|
He's dead to me now
|
Wooooah thats a lot of money for a guard! Good for him. Now lets find somebody else to plug in.
|
Carl who? man i hate this crop. we find them made them great and tampon bay gets to wear him. thanks for a ring carl but u saw ur last one. u may land up in los angeles before its over.
|
I guess I should have come here before posting in the Grubbs thread.
Well, for what it's worth; Glad you got paid Carl. Thanks for your time here. That being said, Carl. You are now the enemy. Hope you enjoy having only 1 SuperBowl ring and playing on a crap team. |
He'll disappear into complete nothingness now, I know you want to get paid I really do. But there would be alot more wins with us and alot more paydays if he weren't so greedy
Oh well see ya carl, don't let the tampon bay cannon hit ya on the way in, sign grubbs!! |
Good for him... glad he got what he wanted.
I hope we put him on his ass when we play him(the legit way). |
Good for him. It would have been nice to keep him, but he can be replaced. The Saints go marching on.
Just blows my mind when offensive lineman act like prima donna RBs/WRs ... & QBs, for that matter. |
So that's an average of $9.5M/year - there's no way the Saints could've afforded to pay him that nor should they have.
I'm glad for him, and appreciate all that he did for the Saints. I fully understand why he signed with the Bucks, and I don't have any hard feelings about it. But, with all that said, he is now a Buccaneer and solely because of that I can't root for the guy to have any success in the future - much like what happened with Faine. |
And how much has Faine done since he left? NADA!

we've been lucky over the last few years not to lose big time players to free agency. this 1 really hurts. he was as solid as we ever loss one except for willie roaf and he was traded i think by joe horn.
|
last time one of our o-lineman went to tampa, we won the superbowl shortly thereafter
|
Saints replaced Faine and Goodwin, I got faith that Loomis will find a way to replace Nicks
|
I never blame football players leaving for the money. TB was way under the cap and there was no way we could of given him that kind of money with our cap situation. I wish him the best except for the 2 times he plays us each year. Time to move on and sign Grubbs and use the extra money on defense.
|
Nice... yet another now valuable compensatory pick... how many more can we get? Another from tracy porter perhaps?
|
Nobody thought very highly or Evans or Nicks. We are good at bringing in late round players and coaching them up to play at a high level. I'd like to see Bushrod at LG and Brown at LT. 31 mil guarantted for a guard is REDICULOUS. Sign Drew and get to work on the D.

Drew has A LOT to do with why these linemen look so good. 1.5 second release and very nifty feet in the pocket.

Bushrod wouldn't be effective as a guard, and Brown wouldn't stay healthy long enough to make a difference. |
Pay Day for him. Guess money does trump all. Big names & big bucks do not always = wins.
|
The one good thing about this signing is that TB probably can't get Mario Williams. I was nervous that with all their cap space this was the guy they were going to target all along. They were last in the league in sacks and he seemed to make sense for them. I did not want to face Williams twice a year but this signing along with the Vincent Jackson signing most likely takes them out of the Williams sweepstakes. Don't get me wrong, Nicks is a great signing for them but signing Williams would have made me much more nervous given their needs.

...however... Drew makes these guys look even better. I'm happy for Nicks to be sure, but Tampa over payed. |
Tampa is really trying to buy their way out of sucking this off season. Too bad for them their suckage is innate and won't ever be changed.
I will miss Nicks. After some years on Tampa, he will likely be missed by most of the NFL. |

That's one way to look at it, but from another stand point it would've been nice to see them give Williams a +$100M contract and get the same type of production the Texans got out of him this past season - him missing 3/4 of the season with an injury. |
