this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I read that the Saints bounty program was "at its peak in the 2009 season". What do we take away from this? Bounties are effective....

In the Saints' case it turned bad. They stopped tackling and wanted to make the "Biggest hit of the Week", with the boys in the locker room.
There has to be some sort of "Performance based incentive". Something stupid but fun to earn. In the Army we would have Sapper challenges. It was a combat engineer challenge that would test us to see who was doing the best job. At the end of the training year; whoever had the most points would get a 2 foot section of a picket that was painted with gold spray paint. If it is done the right way, I think it works great. They already have a "Doll" that they use when someone is not putting out the best effort. The money thing; while I feel sure is like all of us betting a buck on something (So I don't think the money was the deciding factor); is what is making them seem like thugs for hire. Which couldn't be further from the truth. |
