The bottom line is that Tom Benson owns this team. It belongs to him. He will do what is best for his franchise, or not. If he wrecks it? His loss. His money.
I am emotionally invested in the Saints. Mainly, because of the connection that they provide me with my son. I'm not 16yo. My son is. We don't have an infinite number of things that we are both interested in. The connection that we are able to share with the Saints is huge to me. I am a capitalist at heart. I believe that Tom Benson and the NFL should have freedom to run their businesses the way that they see fit. If the market (us) don't like the product? We don't spend our time and money on it. Certainly the players have an expectation to share in this because pro sports are a virtual monopoly in this nation. They share physical risk. They are rewarded HUGELY financially. They don't put up the dollars, they demand them. My main point is that the owners OWN their business. The players are employees. They had the opportunity to negotiate anything during the lockout. This is the result. Accept what you agreed to! If Drew signs? I am happy, provided it doesn't wreck the team. If he leaves? So what? It won't effect the important areas of my life. If nothing else, it has given me an opportunity to discuss these things with my son. PRICELESS! FLAME AWAY! |

Drew, and ALL NFL players need to learn how to manage their finances better. I have a friend who was a former NFL draft pick for the Bears and played 3 seasons in Chicago. He blew his money and now works at a retail store. He told me once that neither in College nor the NFL did anyone teach him how to manage or save his money.... all gone. It's a hard life lesson to learn. PM me and I'll tell more. Current NFL players make 10 times what NFL players made 7 or 10 years ago!!! It's seriously out of hand. People have a right to do what they want with their money and earn whatever is awarded them in private business..... But there ARE NO ETHICS or values instilled in these men who are considered "professionals" by a league which professes itself to be held to such "high standards"!! IT'S A FLIPPING DISGRACE!! HYPOCRISY!!! THERE, I HAD TO SAY IT. END OF RANT!!!!! |

They hold a Rookie Symposium every year following the draft and expect all of these guys to have an epiphany and reverse a lifetime of adults coddling them and accepting poor behavior in a weekend. All because they can play ball. I won't accept 18 year olds in the NFL like the NBA and MLB has, but there should be a minor league system for dudes who have no business being in secondary education. The reason that it will never happen is that the NFL won't do it if it isn't profitable. True altruism would be nice in this case. |
