In Meachem's case I think he was made better not by Drew but by the group of receivers which resided in NO in his time here, no nonsense guys, quiet, about business guys your never here our WRS complaing about how many balls there getting, not getting. It is an environment which breeds " be ready when your number is called"

In the case of a good receiver, this is true, but in the case of a bad receiver, the system can get them open when they wouldn't normally be able to get open, it can get them in matchups that are favorable when normally they wouldn't play against that corner. A good system will take someone who is having an off day and move in a new piece, minimizing your bad days (in terms of mistakes) and maximizing your good ones. All of these things change when you go into a traditional WR1, WR2 scenario, when you have to make those things happen on your own, every play, by knowing the playbook, knowing your opponent, and executing. In the Saints system a lot of that is done by Payton and Drew for the players.

As long as the Chargers know there is no buyers remorse if he isn't as effective as he was with the Saints.

These are better 'old' questions: 1) Was Meachem, with 141 catches in 4 years, a 'bust'? 2) Why do teams overpay for our players? 3) Why can't we get long-term production from our #1 picks? |
